As you said Tom, if it works, it works.
So decided to leave things alone for the time being.

This forum is not setup to host large video files, but you can upload it to youtube and share the link. If you have trouble, let me know.

Been enjoying driving the car.
She revs beautifully pulls incredibly and the sound of the engine while doing so is mesmerising!

Its been quite hot here and after a longish drive
at 3 in the afternoon the fuel pump failed. The electric
didnt seem to pump fuel so had to wait for the car
(and the fuel pump) to cool down before it would
restart.

Will change the electric fuel pump and then (finally)
put the car into paint.

A question - have noticed that when the engine is hot
the oil pressure gauge shows very low pressure when
the engine is idling. While driving the gauge
shows a healthy pressure. Is that normal?

As long as you have good even compression, I have never viewed this as a problem in any of my cars….oil heats, thins out, gauge reads lower …seen it in some of my prior my air cooled Porsches and some mercedes. Let’s see what others think.

On vintage Ferrari engines, when the engine is hot, the oil pressure is usually pretty low. I like to see a little pressure, and not zero, but a tick off the bottom is common, What is important is the oil pressure reacts quickly with a little throttle. A lazy oil pressure gauge when the throttle is applied is a sign that there is a lot of oil pressure leaking past bearings and such. Make sure you're running a 20W-50 weight oil.

Enjoy the car.

Good morning all - the comments in respect of oil pressure readings, ie low at idle but increasing promptly with revs, are a comfort to me. It’s something I’ve long wondered about and which led me to check the sump scavenge gauze filter. The filter is clearer after a clean-up but wasn’t nearly as clogged as I had feared.

Thats very useful thank you!

Another question:

While out for a spin a couple of weeks ago
a car in front of me suddenly braked and stopped his car
at a green light while all the traffic was moving.
So i slammed the brakes hard,
all four wheels locked - and i gently slid
and bumped into him!

A little damage to the bumper and bodywork
but since the car is going into paint shortly
am not terribly upset.

The clear lens in the bumper did crack though,
and I wanted to enquire if you know where
I could get one of these.

Picture below.

A quick question

Are the tail light lenses specifically signal and stop lens of GTB4 Daytona and 365 GT 2+2 the same on both cars?

To clarify

The car will be going in for paint shortly

The lenses on the car are not the originals but something we had made locally which were not very good

The question therefore is

Where can I get the taillight lenses?

I have found one supplier who has them for the GTB4 Daytona and they look the same as the ones on the 365

Are they the same?

Thanks much

That's question I don't have an answer to! There are several owner of Daytonas on this Forum, so at the very least we can get someone to measure the diameter of their lenses?

Happy Diwali Everyone!

Its the Indian New Year so thought its a good time as any to take the car for a drive.

She started immediately, ran beautifully, but then
after about ten kilometres sputtered and stopped.

It happened on the last two drives as well, at which
time we thought the mechanical pump had overheated
the electric auxiliary wasn’t working properly and had simply
waited till the car cooled down, and she had restarted.

This time we went step by step to diagnose the
problem and tracked it down to overheating of the
coils. A lot of application of a cool damp cloth on the
coils got them to cool down and soon she roared to
life again.

To remind you - we had a terrible problem tuning
the car and getting her to run, until we dropped
in a pertronix kit, flame thrower coils (the blue bmw ones didnt work properly) and switched
to 95 octane, post which all problems vanished and
she drives like Ferrari should! All in all QED and a great
experience.

Now the questions:

Pertronix recommended removing the resistors
which is what we did. However the coils are obviously
getting too hot. Should i refit a 1.5 ohm resistor?

The coils are fitted in what i imagine is the original
position. Vertically in the tiny space between the engine
and the firewall. Should we consider moving them
to the front of the engine bay, say one on either side?

Temperatures in India are HOT, the V12 and my
driving style make the engine bay hotter…..

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

HI A.D.,

I also want to make sure you removed the condenser now that you're running the pertronix system? I recently had a hot running issue that ended up being a bad condenser. You can try to relocate the coils, but engine compartment temps are much hotter than ambient, so the coils should be able to handle the heat.

I hope and pray that all in LA county are safe and well. Horrific scenes!

Back to the car:

Moved the coils so I think that should fix the problem. We will know once the weather gets warmer.

Had the exhaust system which was rusted and had many holes rebuilt in stainless steel. He wanted to do the headers too but to my mind they looked original so had him repair the holes.

The car sounds a lot quieter and I feel he may have “muffled” the sound too much. By any chance does anyone have photographs of the internals of the original muffler?
