Hi Josh,
Next thing you know, they'll be wanting to use aluminum shift knobs!
Making a shift knob from scratch is in the hot rodder mentality, putting a bogus nitrous button on it would be a problem! ;-)

Tom,

Hot rodding-wise, a nitrous system on a vintage Ferrari might be interesting - when are you mounting it on your car? ;-). I think it would work better on one of the old Ferrari chassis that lost their engines to a repro. Supercharged small block in a GTE chassis???

Has anyone considered putting in a 400 drive train into a GTE chassis? How would one handle the 2 mount to 4 mount issue?

Tom,

Along this theme, have you considered sprucing up the paint a bit? Flames might be a nice touch!

I can see it now the Ferrari 2+2 pimpmobile!

I recently saw a picture of a Daytona with a leather boot over the gate! So I guess some people want to go the other way.

Fest,

You wouldn't know where one could see a picture of the Islero with the gated shifter you mentioned? Having owned 3 Isleros, I'd love to see that. Not that I plan to convert mine ...

Tom
I finally found the Redline lead additive at a local muscle car performance shop, and they do a big business in nitrous systems. Got me to thinking...but not seriously. I did have plans to install one on my old BMW635.

Another approach, I know Tom, I am egging them on now....

Rear seats would be removed and a low platform installed, with padded /quilted leather cover and old style luggage straps. Add competition style accessories such as stainless fire extinguisher, pushbutton engine starter, fuel and battery shutoffs in the cockpit, aluminum pedal trim, etc. Color scheme would be less conservative than with the first approach but still well within Ferrari tradition: original factory colors in either case.""

There is another way, late last year I saw a partial 250 wo engine and transmission but a sound body at Tom Shaughanessy's that could be made into a terrific Ferrari hot rod, you might even save a serial number in the process and with a little looking find an engine, add six carbs and wo all that interior, bumpers etc, it just might go like a bat out of hades. Fair warning though, my wife found out and threatened mahem if I occluded the other half of the garage with yet another one of those Italian things, but it WAS fun to think about!! Michael:

Someone much richer than myself could drop a hotrod 6 carb 330 engine in it and instant bad ass 330 America. I'm ignorant about the 365 GT4 2+2/400i drivetrain - is the trans front mounted? If so, there's a running 400 4 cam V12 on ebay right now. Think what that would be like in the GTE! If had the money, I would probably be looking into it.

Actually, I've decided on the straight up approach for further restoration of my 330. Too much money in it as it is to spend on fun but questionable
improvements.

I've got a 1/24 scale 250 SWB model with a Daytona engine/drivetrain
in progress. It's interesting to work out these automotive fantasies at small and affordable scale.

I have been toying with the idea of dropping a HOT Daytona motor
(e.g. like the one in OCT Forza p. 48 Carobu Engineering)
into the staid 400 chassis
would really wake it up....
and should 'bolt right in'

400i mann-

OOOOPS!!
my bad
not Islero, but ESPADA
got em mixed up, I reckon
(the reference to the 400i comment should have been a clue)

this Espada (with Gated Shifter) is pictured in the 'Illustrated Buyer's Guide to Lamborghini'
on p. 68; identifed as Chassis # 7825
