Hi Rudy:
Just wait until we refer to our cars as 330 GTC 2+2's: Or maybe a "330 GTC" as a 330 GTB/2! We will confuse them.
Cheers

In Car Collectorand Car Classics (April 1982) Alan Boe said "The chassis was a further development of the Ferrari type 508 chassis and was designated the type 508E chassis, hence the suffix "E" in GTE." Even though he disagees with me on this issue, I still respect him and think, maybe, just maybe, that he might know more about this than I do...

Chassis type:
508 250 Europa GT
508B 250
508C 250 GT PF Cabriolet and 25 GT Spyder California
508D 250 GT Spyder California
508E 250 GTE and 330 America
508F 250
The 508E connection seems like the 128E connection. I can't buy the similar letter theory just due to a motor or production chassis number. It was 1960 and Ferrari's very first 'family car'. It needed to be marketed as such with a new designation as the Grand Touring Espanso (expanded to 2+2) to capture the world's attention and be able to generate new sales revenues to continue the factory's racing efforts. GTB, GTC, GTS, GTL, GTO all designate a the car's character or purpose. I see a consistancy with the GTE designation here.
