Artcurial has a notoriously high commission schedule on their lots so it's more like $60k commission plus taxes

From Artcurial's catalog.

Classic Cars
• From €1 to €600,000: 16% + Current VAT.
• From €600,000 to €1,400,000: 12% + Current VAT.
• Over €1,400,001: 10% + Current VAT.

Final price including fees and taxes was Euros 333,760 which I make $454,312 at Friday's exchange rate!

How can they get away without disclosing the re-stamped engine number? The dealer laws are pretty strict (at least in the US), but auction houses can get away with anything it appears. There is not a mention of a replacement engine and they identify the engine and chassis numbers as the same without any asterisks or qualifications in the description: http://www.artcurial.com/en/asp/fullcat ... 54&image=5
