Pretty car and interesting priceS.
With two weak cylinders, but said to run well, is it possible to not need to rebuild the engine for a while?
Also if left dry in a dry garage, how fast will the rust progress?. The reason I ask this is that my car has 2 small bubbles ( not even 3% as bad as this car), but now is always dry. I am hoping that this wont need repair for a long time- Am I correct?
It would seem to me that if "repairing" the engine means a complete rebuild and the rust is repaired properly, the extra $22K is worth it.

If the rear ashtray is the same as the 330's you can buy one new from Ferrari UK. Hah! My car was also restored by a Jaguar shop who made some mistakes in putting the engine back together. I thinkuseing a Jaguar shop must seem like a good and cheaper way to restore a Ferrari but the thing is you can see by just looking at the interior that they weren't working from a familiarity with these cars. In my case, they didn't have the tools to align the engine when they rebuilt it so the bearings wore out pretty quickly.
Funny how Sheehan is selling this car, it doesn't seem like his normal modus operandi, which is selling cars that are seemingly in great shape or at least rare-er then the GTE's....Maybe he will sell anything in the 250 Series. Maybe he is thinking it will sell quicker if it's cheaper, or he is pricing the late GTE engine alone for the SWB folks at 59G's.
Best,
Yale

Good point. I think this sale is consitent with the current US marketplace that has few vintage cars avaiable. I suspect Michael is simply "going with the flow", or helping a 250 owner climb the food chain.

price = 60K
engine redo = 20K
paint = 15K
total = 95K , market correct price?
What about the tired interior and the detail in the engine bay?
Then again, that is close to what I did, I bought a discounted car with cosmetic and lack of use issues. My engine was fine, and the body was OK, not great. Even with the work done, it is now a #2 car, and amazingly enough, I am not under water. It might be the same case for today's buyer in 3-4 years....

I do not know why. Maaco might do it for $2K.
It might be cheaper in other parts of the country where all the environmental fees do not come into play. Or maybe someone can do it without taking off all the chrome and trim, without sanding it, without taking it out the glass, and maybe there are no body/rust repairs at all.
All I know is that I paid 12K and change for mine, and I was happy with the results (Frank Zucchi Restorations in Livermore, CA).
All 3 quotes were all in the same price range, but I did pick specialists, IOW, people who have repainted other 50s era Ferraris before.
BTW, Hagerty was wonderful in the entire process.

I do, too. Two toddlers make it mission impossible. I still remember when I made fun of "checkbook mechanics"....

engine S/N
Has anyone seen that the engine S/N is not the same as the car?
