I’m in the process of researching exhaust systems to replace the custom system currently on my car. The current system consists of 1 timevalve muffler on each side, big, fat pipes, and minimal bends. It’s a beautifully made system that is very throaty and very loud -- however, it's not sufficiently “authentic” for my taste.

I considered Timevalve, ANSA, and Stebro, but I believe I’ve settled on a Stebro system, given the price and the sound. They claim that it will require only “minor tweaking” to fit, but I know better from Tom’s experience. I’ll have a local shop that comes highly recommended wrestle with it on my behalf to make it fit.

Before I commit to them, I’d like to hear others’ advice or suggestions, and also know if Stebro systems are available only directly from Stebro or if there are other options. Thanks.

I think that ANSA is as 'authentic' as one can get: original equipment, original fit, and original sound as Enzo intended.

I went w/ Stebro. Had to cut off and move back the front-most hanger. Had a shop do the welding since I wasn't going to try to learn how to weld stainless on an expensive exhaust . . .

Hi Andrew,

It was nice to be able to hear the different sytems based on Tom's recordings. I am with Matt on this one. The Ansa sounds the truest to my car which still has the original system and to me, sounds the best. I think it will only add to the car's value having the Ansa system as it should.

i replaced the outrageously heavy and expensive original center resonator sections on my 1978 400 with a custom stainless solution from Stebro.
virtually straight through,with one bullit style resonator per side, until they bolt up to the Ansa silencers at the back which had been replaced by the P.O.
i absolutely love the sound now. very similar at idle and constant velocity but much more robust under load. Great price and sound from Stebro but be prepared for some frustration as far as Stebro's delivery is concerned though.

I too choose the not cheep ANSA, for the originality and sound, but did drill weep holes to prevent garage rot. M

I bought Stebro but have not installed it yet. It was delivered exactly as promised within 3 weeks of ordering it.

I thought that others might like some more details on my search. I need an entire system, which consists of (a) front Y-pipes, between header flanges and center sections, (b) center muffler sections, and (c) rear tail pipe sections. 2 of each are required, of course.

I contacted Tubi, ANSA (through a distributor), Timevalve, and Stebro. Tubi never responded. The ANSA system price was $4900 including shipping, but this was without they Y-pipes which they did not mention even though I did. Timevalve’s price was $3,700.00 which included painting but, again, no Y-pipes. Shipping would be an additional $180. Stebro’s total cost was $2550, plus $83 for shipping, and an additional $300 if they were to paint them. Stebro also offered a 10% discount for FCA members.

I would be curious to know if others’ price searches produced similar results, and to know if anyone has found a reasonably-priced (ha!) ANSA system. I agree with others that the ANSA system sounds great – one of the pure joys of driving #8705 was the perfect exhaust note from this system.

You might also want to check the warranty for these systems. I blew one of the welds on my Timevalve system, (backfire? low curb?) and they fixed it for free as part of their life of ownership guarantee. Tubi is a one year guarantee and their system is about $5000.

I orders mine from QuickSilver in London. I don't know the shippingcost to the US but I payed around $ 2100 inkuding the heatshields and the Y-pipes.
Perfect fitting and no problems.
(Don't accsept their first offer-they will go lower)

Stebro was $2300 which included the 4 downpipes from the headers to the center sections. $95 to ship. $150 to paint black which I decided against.
