I Bought a FERRARI 250 GTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by william »

Hello everybody,

Great News, I just purchased serial number 3447.
The car was loaded yesterday in La Canada California and headed to Indiana. If things go well I should have the car around Wednesday of next week. The car is stunning, beautiful Rosso Rubino with cream leather. I sent Tom photos and gave him permission to post. I'll send more photos once the car arrives.

How do I join the 250 GTE news letter?

Congrats! I know this car. It was restored by my old shop GT Motors (tho' before I owned it). If I recall it did rather well in various shows in the mid 1990s. Did you buy it from Bob Brinkman?

Good luck!

You got it, I bought it from Bob's estate. The car is just beautiful. Thanks T308. Any info about the car would be great. Anybody else know anything?

William,

Congratulations on the GTE. It looks very nice in the photo. The color works well with the body style.

The thrill of that very first drive in your own GTE is something you will remember for life.

Thanks Rudy,Matt

The car arrived yesterday. What an exciting day.

Now the dumb questions start.

How long do I let the car warm up before taking off?

I'm not sure if my wipers work? is that what the W button is on the console? How does it work?

Do I push in the Autflux button in after the car starts?

What about the manual chock how and when should it be used?

Thanks

I have more but I'll stop here for now.

I do not sit there forever....perhaps about 3-5 minutes. It is more important to let it warm up and be gentle with the revs and controls until all the teamps are up to normal, including oil and water temp. I usually keep it below 3K RPMs and doubleclutch for the first 5-10 miles.

I'm not sure if my wipers work? is that what the W button is on the console? How does it work?
Actually the "W" button connects you to the President.
Seriously, turn it right, wipers come on, turn it right again one more detente, and they come on "high speed". Sign up at owners.ferrari.com and you can download a free pdf owners manual. You are a Ferrari owner now, milk it for all its worth !

Do I push in the Autflux button in after the car starts?
No, you prime it first, until it stops ticking (it means the carbs are filled). Then you strat it with a a couple of pumps of gas when cold. When hot, I find that I am almost flooring the gas to get it started.

What about the manual chock how and when should it be used?
A lot of people advise against using it at all. I use it for the first 5 miles to keep the idle up.

Thanks

Congratulations from the Northeast too. It's nice to see Ferraris spread around the country. You are going to have a permanent smile on your face! :D

Luke, went home for lunch and yes the wipers work well, thank you.

I'm not sure but the carbs may need adjusted. First the car does not want to Idle very well second it is starting to back fire a little. and third I think it is about out of gas. When I drove the car home yesterday after meeting the shipper the car kept dying on me I realized I had the manual chock on and I dont remember but I may have had the autflux on. All I know was that I was happy to have my Ferrari. Now when I start the car cold I should pull the autflux should I leave it pulled out as I drive the car? or push it in.

Car really sounds great however just started to backfire last night in my driveway very low on fuel.

is my car a four speed? only could find 4 foward gears?

Thanks Sam Yes I do have a smile.

Really I do know somethings about cars!!!

Thanks
