4HL 330 on eBay, round 2

Post by andrew »

Hi folks,

Now on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1964-Red ... dZViewItem

Formerly on eBay (closed 9/1/05): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... :B:EF:US:1

This car was discussed on this board recently when the first auction was underway, and before that too (see message posted on 8/26 for details).

Interesting that it's now being sold in Pennsylvania for as low as $8,000 after selling in California for $56,000. The sellers appear to be different.

I don't think the car is going to sell for $8,000.00 unless I am the only bidder.

It's a fraudulent sale. Seller has zero feedback, too-good-to-be-true price, "call me first before bidding"... all the earmarks of a scam. This guy's stolen the pics, probably hijacked someone's e-bay identity, the works.

A couple of notes.

The 9/1 auction seemed to result in a completed sale. Both parties left positive feedback for each other.

Some of the current auction bids have been canceled by the seller. The bids have not been withdrawn by the buyers! The seller also offers payment by personal check. Not Western Union wire transfer like most scammers want as there is no way to get your money back.

So this really stinks, but I don't understand how the seller expects to sucessfully part the buyer from his money and get away with the deal.

I don't get it. Pretty weird auction all the way around.

Something right out of "Alice in Wonderland". Madhatters included.

I like the "two doors or more" feature. Perhaps the filler cap is a door.

If the sale is/was a scam, I'm thinking you don't want to be scaming this potential buyer. Lots of money flowing cross border into luxury stuff, textbook cleaning. If this seller scams this buyer it may be the last scam the seller pulls.
