Hydraulic brake light switch

Post by sam231 »

I hope this community can lead me to a source for this switch. Judging by the parts book it was (is) Lucas part # 31082. I suppose I could call Tom, but thought I would start here first. It is for a series II 330 gt 2+2.
Thanks.

A follow-up to my question: Tom's restoration indicated that Francois acknowledged that the switch is no longer made but that a VW switch could be modified to fit. Further question, what VW brake light switch?

Try taking the old switch to NAPA or the like, and match up the type of terminals and threads. There is no magic to the switch as it is common to many cars. If you cannot find the exact type of terminal, push on or screw type, you can change the wire ends to fit.

A brake switch out of a 60s-70s VW beetle screws right in. About $5 at your local auto parts store.

I got mine from GT Car Parts in Arizona. It was reasonable enough to not bother with the cross reference attempts. I think his comes pre-modified slightly to work....

I grafted a Porsche switch into the Ferrari unit. The bullet connections were the same.

Kerry is right, just don't get one through a VW dealer, the local Pep Boys wanted 5 or 6 bucks, the VW dealer 65! Michael Bayer #9727

Hi all, thank you. The request for information was done on behalf of another 330 2+2 owner (#7895) and stable mate at Independent Ferrari Service. Nice car coming out of long-term storage, seemed mostly original. I think the owner, who might be (judging by the 330 Registry) Andrew MacDonald, was going for roadworthiness to sell the car but John Tirrell did such a good job getting it back to drivable that the owner changed his mind. I was helping John by searching for a some small item (a trunk lock with key) for the car when asked about the switch. The owner has since taken the car back and is going to finish restoration himself so the information flowed to him. I told John to tell him to join this forum and Kerry's site to help him with his restoration.

Fred Petroskie @ Mostly British. I have had good luck with parts from him.
