Well I finally took my waterpump apart after my 100 miles on the previous seal (large diameter spring) . It turned out to be 2 opposing cracks in the carbon face that caused the leaking. After calling the Ferrari supplier of the seal and asking whats going on ? He stated that I must have broken it on installation. What a sorry response. ( I guess the $5.00 he paid for it was to much of a loss to take to give me a new one) .Obviuosly he never replaced a seal before. My 6 year old could could install the seal. And yes the washer face was perfectly flat . I then took a rubber mallet to the seal on my workbench and still could not crack the carbon face.

I can read many bad stories but does anyone have any good stories to report on sucessful water pump seals. Whether it be the suppliers to use or the sucess of using the large diameter spring vs. small diameter spring. My previous seal (small diameter spring) lasted 5 years. The carbon did not crack after this time but the tension weakened causing the leak.

Water Pump seal.

to reiterate - the first seal kit from Ferrari did not make it out of the shop - it leaked during test drive. The spring was replaced with the original (heavy) spring. After 1200 miles coolant started to pour out of it. This time the rubber boot had split in 2 places. It is not just the carbon disc that can be a problem.
It appears to me that the only thing the current replacement is good for is an old VW.
I now have an extensively rebuilt pump (finished installation last night) and I will let you know how that works. It is not using a Ferrari seal.

Steve,

When you refer to small diameter and large diameter springs what is the size in millimeters you are refering to? I'm about to take mine out and plan to hopefully just do it one time.

After my fun autocrosss and the 360 spin, water pump weep hole has a leak. Got water pump out, yep, carbon seal is worn out, nothing broken, just some end play due to the seal being worn down. Before I make 10 phone calls, where is a goodplace to start for the seal part? Bearings are easy to locate locally.

I have read all the past posts about needing the larger spring in the seal, so am aware to look for that.

Thanks

Geoff at Partsource had the water pump seals. I have learned there are three water pump types on the 330 2+2.
