Laycock OD Parts Availability

Post by El Wayne »

I'm looking for internals (planetary gears and annulus) for my overdrive unit. I understand that the type-A unit was also used in several Jags, Austin Healeys, Triumphs, Volvos, etc. and that the internals should be interchangeable (though this might have a slight effect on the drive ratio). Does anyone have a source for these parts? Thanks in advance!

Wayne,
For years I have been agitating for some kind of price and supplier list for the Ferrari community, there is one however for British Cars (and parts). Here is a Laycock specialst a bit closer to you:

2 Bob Skoog -- rank: 633
Bob Skoog Souther California (San Diego?) (760) 728-5328 sisku@nctime.net http://www.sdvsa.org/LaycockOD.htm [2003/May/9] According to the URL above, Bob Skoog is distributing parts for one of the British suppliers of O/D parts. His shop is set up to repair and recondition Laycock overdrives, with three week or better turnaround, and a 30 day warranty. Got an update? This does NOT mail to the vendor! The Monster List of British Vendors is brought to you by The Dimebank Garage
Company Address/Phone, etc.: Souther California (San Diego?) (760) 728-5328 sisku@nctime.net http://www.sdvsa.org/LaycockOD.htm
Entry Date: 2003/May/9

And here is Chris Kantarjiev's "Monster List" of suppliers:

And please Wayne, can you keep us posted on your trials and tribulations. Part of the mission here is to share the pain. All the best, Yale

Thanks, Simon and Yale. I sent emails off to Bob Skoog and everyone on the "monster list" prior to posting here and am just now receiving a couple of responses. I will keep you up to date on the results. In the meantime, I'm open to any other suggestions. Thanks again!

(Was supposed to be the "eye-rolling" emoticon. Didn't realize that "Smilies" are turned off, as is the ability to edit one's post.)

Careful on letting that car go to Tom. With the Olympics coming up, I have a notion that Tom would like to be lighting up his own torch.
