heater/defroster wire in sheathing

Post by larryingreenback »

Does anyone know of a source for the solid wire in metal sheathing used on many older Ferrari's to turn on/off the heater control valve and also to direct air to the the defroster or the floor vents?

I got new wire and sheathing at a NAPA Auto parts store here in California. It worked out quite well.

Wasn't this bicycle cable? Or is that just what Tom Yang used? Yale

I believe it may the same that Tom used. The sheathing has a clear inner coating (can't recall name) that prevents the binding issues related on the original style cable that requires lubrication.

Bicycle wire is stranded. Stranded cable works best for pulling but not so well for pushing.

The items NAPA had were too thick for my sheath. Since I didn't want to replace the sheath I looked for comparable core cable. The ones at NAPA were too thick. I even tried a lawnmower shop--- still too thick.

Finally, I discovered McMaster Karr. They have the whole range of piano wire. I ordered the wire that was closest to my stock wire. I had to buy a pound of it but it was cheap.
