Does anyone have any feedback on the 348 TS Ferrari models? Good, bad or indifferent. What to watch for, etc.?
Thanks,

Rudy,
I owned a 348 TS for a few years. Just like any other modern Ferrari (and I'm sure you know this already), the timing belts can be an expensive issue. Intermittent seat belt retractors is another common issue. The most annoying problem I had was the "sticky" plastic syndrome - also pretty common to 348s. There is a rubberized coating on most of the interior plastic pieces (including the door latches). Eventually it gets gooey and leaves sticky black residue all over your hands. Replacing all the plastic is not cheap either. I also had problems (like the FIRST day I had the car) with the exhaust temp senders and corresponding ECUs. If one goes bad (and they will), it shuts off that bank of the engine. I replaced both senders and ECUs. I had not owned the car for 24 hours and already had $1200 dollars in it. I have rarely seen a 348 that has not had the front spoiler repaired. You cannot shift in to second gear until the transmission warms up. Do not buy an early (pre mid-91) 348. I also felt the front end was a bit light at high speeds. Other than that, they make all the right noises, are very quick and when they work well, they are a pleasure to drive.

Keith,
Thanks for your input on the 348 model. I have gotten some good information on what to look for and am quite interested in the car. I had been corresponding with a dealer in New York that had a clean 1994 spyder. The fact that it was a convertible made it more 'saleable' propostion for the wife, which is always helpful. Anyway, they had no service history on the car for which I requested. Fortunately they were able to get some good history on it which included the 30K service (big) and clutch replacement. Immediately after they saw how much had been spent on the car, they went and changed the advertised price from $54,440 to $60,000! Needless to say, I was not amused and passed.
