I like it!

Any comments on it or predictions of sale price?

So, someone who's more experienced in terms of big-ticket items like this on e-bay, please chime in. We see vintage Ferraris on e-bay all the time, but do they actually sell, or is the idea really to get some low-cost advertising for your car and hope that when the "sale" ends and your reserve price has not been met, someone whi really is a potential buyer will contact you and things will develop from there..?

I believe that this is the car a lot of us remember from Concorso '04, and some of us (not me) got a better look at it than others in the chaos of the first year at Blackhorse, because the owner wasn't often with the car.

The pictures and description certainly indicate that it's a superb example. And when you compare it to the frankly not-so-nice 3rd series GTE that's currently listed by Fantasy Junction at $98,500, I wonder if the ultimate sale price for this car re-set the top of the market for the 330 Americas?

I saw this car at Concorso 04 and it appeared to be very nice, though I would defer to Tom Yang (with far more capable eye) who went over it more carefully then me. Tom: What did you think of this car? Michael Bayer

Hi Guys,

I've been in touch with the sellers and also had a good look at this car when I was in Concorso in '04. It was a very nice example and should sell for what the top of the 330 America market will bring. What this price will be will have to to bee seen.

I often hear of cars that did not actually sell on e-bay, but sold post close. The public will think the auction closed and sold at its closing price, but this often is not the case. A differernt owner usually contacts me with a differernt sale price. I offered to help sell this car privately, but they wanted to try e-bay.

I'm interested to see what Bob and Ron get for this car. I may be calling my insurance agent to up my insurance coverage!

Whatever the final price ends up being, there's several thousand dollars of mostly original tools in the tool kit.

I was surprised to not see that mentioned in the auction. The picture is from CI in 2004.

Tom, you should buy the car for the toolkit!

Feb/Mar '06 Cavallino has 330 America range at $95K--$135K, and we have the 330 2+2 that recently sold in high $90's on ebay, so go figure.

My prediction: Will top out at $100K+ on ebay but not meet reserve.

I think the ebay 330 2+2 sale was a rare fluke.

I think the history of the car will give it an extra boost on the final selling price but agree with bluecat that the sale won't happen on ebay. I just don't see the older 12 cylinders meeting the owners' reserves on ebay.

I just took a glance at ebay...IMO a reason these older cars don't do well there is that they are often poorly presented...check out the Queen and the 330 Series I on there now; they're typical ebay Vintage 12 offerings. Both look indifferently maintained: dirty engine compartments, wheels, and interiors, ripped carpet, crooked bumperguards, visible surface rust...the kind of stuff that says "neglect" rather than "nice patina".

First-time Vintage 12 buyers are the main market for this type of car and are already twitchy about making the big leap (four years ago, I was, for sure!), and I'm surprised that the sellers of these cars, both dealers, haven't gone the small amount of time and money it would take to correct these minor visual flaws, especially considering the cost of an ebay listing for an automobile.

By contrast, the Fantasy Junction GTE and the 330 America are fairly well presented...they come across as clean, straight, well maintained examples. I would certainly be looking hard at the America were I in the position to be doing so.

Mike Sheehan's website listings are always extra spiffy; even cars that are very much projects look good there. No wonder he has done so well.

For my factual understanding only, is this the proper color of the hood liner for a 330 America?

Black diamond quilting. The details of the 330 America are the same as a Series III GTE.

Let the awful photography be a lesson to anyone posting a car for sale. Don't take photos in direct sunlight and make sure there are no shadows when shooting. Cloudy days or at dusk is best.
I feel that with the bad camera and lousy light you cannot tell much about the car.

It does look like on of the best GTE's out there as far as I am concerned. Should bring over $110,000/

I think that I would have at least addressed the misaligned Pininfarina emblem and the bent wheel before showing the car. Why not just deal with the issues rather than pointing them out?
