One of the things that has always puzzled me on my 330 GT is the socket that is under the dash, just to the left of the steering wheel.
The owner's manual calls it a 'presa corrente' or electric socket.
I've tried over the years to figure out what kind of plug would fit into this socket. Since I had to remove it to re-install my dash, I thought I would post a couple of pictures and see if anybody has ever seen a plug for it.
It looks like it would have ears like a bulb has so you would align the ears, push it in and twist to lock it in place. The end would probably be spring loaded to make good contact with the center part of the socket.
I contacted Ferrari through the owner's site and they said to ask Maranello Concessionaires (now Ferrari UK) parts department. No luck there either. The PF body parts book shows the socket, but no matching plug.

The GTE has the same thing. I have been told (by Tom Shaughnessy, among others) that it is for an emergency light. Apparently it has a long cord that plugs into this socket and can then be use to light your flat tire or malfunctioning engine. However, nobody has been able to show me one.
It is a good trivia question though, because many people I have asked at car shows didn't even know the socket was there!

Many Italian cars have these, the one on my Lancia Beta is identical to the one shown in the picture above. As the one in my GTE (slightly different in design) is long gone, I'm going to install one I found among my Beta spares.
The owners manual calls it "presa corrente" - a power output - even if the arrow point to the fresh air vent.
It is there so the lady can sit in the car smoking cigarettes, while you are out in the rain cleaning points in the middle of the night.
Best wishes, Kare
