My concern would be that if piston number three blew a hole in it, where did all the remaining metal pieces end up? I would let a new buyer rebuild the motor correctly at this point rather than do a band aid fix just to sell it.

Aluminum piston pieces in the crankcase oil. pumped into all the oil galleries, down into the bearing shells,...think about the consequences. Replacing just the piston and rings leaves a room for other things to go wrong down the road. The next owner will have to pull it all apart again!

I'd borescope #3 and see what happened. If it dropped a valve head or seat, a holed piston is just the beginning. It may very well need a cylinder head as well.

Either spend the money and fix it right, or sell it to someone who will.

hi guys
the car overall is an excellent car...
everything is great on the car.....the only thing is this piston.........
i will fix it, put new rings, top end and re-setup the carbs,
then maybe sell....its a shame it just sits under a cover...
i never drive the car.....

someone out there would love this car and have the time to drive it.....
i had my time with it and now its time to move on......

the reason why i choose this path is because i have too many cars that do not get any attention at all and some of them are going as well.......
now its time to step up the collection......

my euro 246 dino is a keeper.....looking for a lusso
i have a lambo 400GT that i absolutely love and it really is in a different league than the GTE.....now looking for a miura, iso grifo 7litre can am,
and /or bizzarrini.....
finishing restoration of a 1962 maser vignale spyder.....
i bought an excellent AMX 390 go pack a year ago and parked it...
i have not touched it since....i might trick it out and soup up

so thats the story.....i also think the 430 spyder is an excellent buy for the money but just cant pull the trigger on a late model ferrari.....goes against my car collecting instincts.......we'll see........

if anyone is interested in the GTE let me know offline......i will fix it......

Eddie,

Partsource is a good supplier and I think Tom has a supplier section on the board.

If it's a nice car, it probobly pays to fix it and move it.

Regards,

Art S.
