Tom's East Coast Party....GREAT!

Post by sam231 »

Kudos to Mike and Marie Meehan for a wonderful party!!! Thank you so much for a beautiful venue, wonderful food, a soft bed, and warm hospitality. Your are very gracious hosts.

I am sure others will follow with more info and pictures (I forgot to load my camera with a picture chip!) but I had a ball. I drove the C/4 down to Westbrook CT and met up with Michael Greenspan and his wife and their 330 America. We then drove in tandem from there to Harpersfield NY (220 + mi.) with only minor problems (quirky speedometer cable and broken window crank on the 330). Both Ferraris ran like they should and it was especially fun running up and down the roads around Harpersfield...smooth and uncrowded, twisty, with beautiful scenery.

For me, besides renewing old friendships and making new ones, the best part of the weekend was hoisting both my car and Mike's pristine european C/4 up on his lift for comparison and finding I had no reason to be embarrased! My trip back the next morning was only marred by a brief unscheduled stop on the side of the Mass Tpke when I noticed the car running too hot. After waiting for the radiator to cool down, I found it full and figured that HIGH speed up and down the hills at the western end of the Tpke had made for hot running! Keeping an eye on the guage, I went on to an FCA/NER bash at Ernie Boch's new Ferrari dealership in Foxboro MA and then home to subsequently discover the source of the overheating problem...one the the fans had quit. Not bad, 525+ miles after essentially two or more years off the road and only a fan to fix! Ferraris ARE meant to be driven.

P.S. I got a chuckle from seeing the stares and hearing the comments (Where was he?? Why do you treat a car like that?) when I parked the car, covered with mud, between all the new shiny iron at dealership!

Tom Yang's Party

Post by whturner »

We loved every bit of the party, even though we had to leave early, so as to get a Sundays worth of stuff done.
Mike and Marie are unexcelled as hosts - and I include the the kids. The guys and gals were great - what a sociable bunch. And technically competent too. We missed Art - he got the ball rolling. Darn those migranes.
The cars were great - made me feel ashamed that mine was up on jack stands (yes, Mike, I use jack stands) waiting for a pinion seal. Next time it will be ready to go!
Actually, maybe it was a good thing we brought a Honda - on I-80 we hit a deer and converted the Honda into a 1 headlight car to drive the rest of the way home. It amused me (slightly) to think that we could have had 4 HL, 2 HL, and 1 HL headlight cars in the 330GT series if the worst case had taken place.
At any case Judy and I loved it, the company, and the whole bit.

Cheers - and see you next year.

Thanks to all who were at the party and double to the folks who generously contributed to the array of food and wine. It was our pleasure to host this years event and I hope evevyone had as good a time as Marie and I did . As always it is the people that make a gathering worthwhile and many folks commented to me about what a great group we have from this site. Looking foward to next year already. Once again thanks to all and to Tom for being the straw that stirs the drink. Regards to all , Mike

I couldn't agree more with the others comments on how much fun the gathering was. Mike and Marie were exceptionally generous with their home, their food and their time. It was wonderful of them to let us put a face to some of the folks we communicate with every day and talk all the Ferrari we could handle. I take pity on the wives who came and had to put up with our obsession!

This is the whole motley bunch! I will send a copy of this to Tom Y and maybe together we can nail down all the names and put it in the restoration diary article. (Note: click on any of these photos for a larger version)

This is why you should buy a lift. It makes for a killer party!

Me pretending this was my car and wishing it was actually running!

For those who could not make it, put the Third Annual Tom Yang gathering on your calendar for 2007. You will not be disappointed!

Hi Jimmy,

There is always next year! Ian would have been upset if he wasn't the furthest travelled from the U.K. this year, but we welcome you from Japan next year!

I want to thank Parker Hall for providing the pulled pork BBQ, hats, new catalogs and door prizes.

I got his new catalog in August in Monterey. One of the things it has always lacked is an index. I was always looking from one end to the other to find a particular item. So I made an index. It's a Microsoft Word document that you can download and print:
