Monterey 2007

Post by tyang »

Hi Guys,

I'm just starting to make plans to Monterey in August (8/17 weekend), and was wondering who's going? Anybody want to split a room? I'm also thinking of heading to LA after the Monterey weekend to check out some car stuff around there. I'm open to suggestions!

Hi Tom,

I'm not sure if I get to go to Monterey this year. Angie and I are trying to get to Italy this fall. I know Gary Hiniker will be out there. If I don't go to europe this year I may be able to pull off Monterey. I'll let you know.

Unless a cheap room turns up.....I might be staying out this year, for the first time in 10 years. I am oversubscribed this summer with other car events, family, business, and a recent volunteer gig...
The events have also become the victims of their own success. I tend to get stuck in traffic jams, or end up in the middle of two cars driving 140 mph on Highway 1, or end up paying $400 for an $80 motel...The Quail last year was fun and ritzy, but I missed the early reg at Concorso, so unless I make a day trip I will most likely miss it.

Of course...Tom is welcome to visit my garage near SFO, kids and wife in tow, at any time of the year !

Tom,

I plan to be in Carmel thursday (and the TomYang party thurs night, right?!), Concorso this year on Fri, and Laguna Seca on Sat. I'll be bringing my Queen for sure this year. I felt like such a tool last year in my M3. I won't let that happen again... :)

I like you and all, but sharing a room? I"d definitely be up for dinner with you and Yale again (Yale, you are coming, too, right?).

Tom,

Hopefully my brother and I can finally meet you at the Quail this year. My mother will showing a very nice 1931 Bugatti type 40A there.

For sure, we won't let mishaps get in our way of attending the TY party this year--- and, we're taking the green car to CI.

I'll def'n be there, and, like last year, plan to go to the Quail, then on to the historics for two great days of racing. Couldn't make it to Tom's shindig last year, but wonder if we might not get together, informally, at the Quail? steve

Hi Steve,

Every year this event happens on my birthday. That is always a bone of contention in my house. Added to that the fact that I bought another car this year, owning three cars in NYC with parking and all further antagonizing the household, thought I'd play it safe this year and save my ready cash for parking (and maintenance). Best, Yale

PS I am planning to go to the East Coast Pocono Italian event though.

And besides, you really don't look right outside of New York.

Dunno yet if I will make it. Each September I vow to help with a beer shortage in Monterey the following year, and each June I stress about how much I need to get done in Australia by September. We'll see.
Have the usual booked at the casa again, but no flight as yet.

Regards,

Andrew.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions, online and offline. I've got a lot of decisions to make, but one thing is for sure. I'm coming, and I will be throwing the Tomyang.net West Coast party again on Thursday night. It will probably be in the same place as it's been, but I'll have to confirm with Tom S.

I hope to see you all there, but we can definitely make arrangements to meet during the rest of the weekend if your schedule doesn't allow Thursday night!

I'll be making my annual pilgrimage to the Car Show Mecca. I hope you can make it out - I've never been to the Thursday party, but I was hoping to go this time around!

Sorry, but I won't be making the trek this year. Have fun and don't drop any beer bottles for me.

I'll be there - this will be my 30th year attending the events in Monterey (only missed the first few historic races). Boy have things changed! Hopefully, I'll be driving the 330, but a new engine problem has stumped both Mike McClure and me! I think its time to think about returning to the Porsche camp. Anyway, hope to catch up with everyone at Tom's party, Quail, Laguna, etc. etc.
