Source for some rubber trim

Post by Michael Greenspan »

My winter project has now become the spring project and hopefully will end before June. While we were redoing the floors and the exhausts, I thought that I might as well rechrome the bumpers and replace some rubber. I have gotten the trim for the doors, hood and trunk, and the rubber inserts for the over-riders on the front and back bumpers. But, I have not found a source for the rubber trim that goes around the overiders at the place where they mount to the bumpers. Can anyone suggest a source?

Thanks very much,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I got you beat this year...my car may be back on the road by the end of May...rebuilt transmission and all! I discovered upon returning from the trip to Mike's house the whine was caused by the gears having been tightened by both hand and a chisel! The whole transmission was moving back and forth in the box. Amazing I made it home.

Re-Originals has what they call "bumperettes" for $350.00 a pair, and you might try Dennis Mcann @ All Ferrari Parts too.

Best to Bride.

Hi Sam. It's not the bumperettes - I got those from Mike Dunn. Beautifully made. Its the "U" shaped kind of tubing that goes between the vertical bumper section and the main bumpers. No mention of this on the Lyle Tanner site which has great identification of different rubber trim pieces and when I asked they said they don't have any in stock. I wonder what Zac is going to use.

Hope to see you soon.

Michael,

My thought is that the rubber piece you mentioned is similar to what is typically used on most British cars. It is U shaped and seems to last longer than any other part of the car. Don't tighten the overrider too hard as it will slice the rubber insulator in half. My Aston, Jaguars and Healey all have that protective rubber between the overrider and the main bumper. You can get it at Moss Motors in Goleta, California.

Hope this is what you need.

rubber trim

Thanks Rudy - that sounds like the right stuff. I will give them a call (and not overtighten the overriders). Michael

Rubber Trim

Rudy: Just spoke to Moss Mostors. Incredibly pleasant and easy to deal with. "oh yeah, we've got that. 39 inches worth for about $5 plus shipping."

Thanks very much.

Michael,

Glad I could be of help. It is good quality, will last forever and be the least expensive new piece you'll ever put on that car!

Michael,

The profile you want is #45 on Tanner's page:
http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/250 ... Rubber.htm
He has it marked as a grill seal, but that is not what it is for. It goes on the overriders against the bumpers (long edge to the inside for glueing) and on the bumper escutcheons against the body.

rubber Trim

Kerry:

Thanks. When I looked at the Lyle Tanner rubber trim page, I thought that the grill seal looked just like what I needed. But, when I called them (I bought the hood and trunk seals from them) the guy on the phone asked Lyle and was told they didn't have the trim I was looking for. I guess the question is whether they were out of number 45 or did they think I was asking about something else. Their rubber pages are very helpful.

FYI, the grill trim for 250 and 330 cars should look like:

Forgot to mention that there is a section in my 330 GT Registry on rubber parts:
http://www.parrotbyte.com/330GTRegistry ... rParts.htm

Most of the parts have a picture of the profile or whole part as applicable.

The rubber that Michael is looking for:

The grill rubber:

Note, I didn't put these in as images as they are full screen but you can click on the link to see the picture.

Hi Michael,

I am rebuilding my 250GTE S/N3761 in Japan.
Cicognani: Where the small of new rubber emanates. They are?manufacturers in Italy that the production sales of the rubber commodity of old Ferrari. They are selling rubber parts wholesale to Reorigenal and Part-exchange. In 2004, I traveled to Emilia Romagna reagion in the North Italy to visit Cicognani Srl, which just happens to be one of largest source of restoration rubber parts for vintage and classic Europian car, mainly Italian (Ferrari,Alfa,Maserati,Lancia,Fiat,Lamborghini....)from 1920's. Cicognani is capable of making molds from original rubbers, so some of you who are working on rare models also may be able to save both time and money.

Taro's note sent me to look for this Italian firm and I found this:

http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/tex ... e_list.htm

and this note:

It was interesting to be able to feel the quality of some parts against others, notably rubber trim, I thought Flamigni's work was much better than the rest e.g. Cicognani. I found a great guy from Calabria called Rodolfo Barbalace, who has a mint early Sprint GT like mine, and who had a market stand at the back of the circuit, I don't know if you met him or not? These fairs are so useful because so many parts dealers in Italy have not got informative websites, if anything at all, and it's amazing what a conversation can reveal about other parts that somehow got left at the warehouse!

Anyway, I could not go this year, but did you find out when the larger (!) parts meet is taking place at the Padova exhibition centre later this year? I'm really going to try to go to that one.

I am going to Northern Italy at the end of this month. would appreciate any recommendations for specialty parts suppliers.

I will look up the trim supplier Taro mentioned. Do you have the contact info for Flamigni?
