Hi Dag,

I'm not sure, but I don't think these gaskets have the red silicone o-ring found on the gasket that worked. The one without any o-ring is the one that failed. I would pass on this set.

These gaskets are italian aftermarket parts, The gaskets are usable, but do not use the headgaskets. Use only the OEM ELRING ones!

gaskets

Post by Dan Sands »

Dally,
The gaskets listed on eBay are no good. I ordered a set and the head gaskets leaked like a sieve, the valve cover gaskets were very brittle. The supplier did give me a refund though. The Elring leaked also. Part Source sold me the Australian set that has the red silicon ring around the perimeter like the Elring but also around each head stud, the Elrings leaked up three studs on me. I pressure tested the engine to 45 psi with each set. The eBay set even leaked into the cylinders. I hope this helps.

No, but will let you know as soon as it arrives to Norway.
Better maybe to give Geoff a call.

Bill at GT car parts also can supply the head gaskets made here in Australia. I heard recently that a batch of 250 outside plug series are about to be made. Should be there in 3 or so months.

Regards,

Andrew.

Hi Rudy,

The guy is selling his gaskets to GT Parts, and Partsource, and I'd imagine priced competitively. I don't know if he's selling directly, but Andrew Brent might be able to shed some light on this matter since he knows the guy personally!

I'm not being coy, I'm just not sure if the Aussie wants to be known publically.

Hi Dan,

We found the same problems with the Italian gaskets. It leaked so badly, that simply filling the radiator with coolant was enough to have anitfreeze leak out from between the head and block! Upon closer inspection, we think the fire ring material was too hard, and did not give enough crush to allow the fiber material in the rest of the gasket to seal around the water passages.

The Elring gasket simply failed after several hundred miles of use. I heard some mechanics using special gaskets dressings more powerful than spray RTV to insure no leaks, but I don't know if we want to test another method and risk more leaks with the Elring gasket. We're going to stick with the AUssie gasekt from now on!

Refunds for gaskets are no good when there is wasted shop time pulling the head and all the associated parts that need to be removed. I counted a minimum of 3-4 hours to get to the head gasket again!

Thanks Tom. As long as we know of a source where they can be obtained is good enough. I spoke with a Ferrari Alfa Maserati mechanic close by here in Burbank and he uses a silicone designed for motorcycle engines on the 250 and 330 headgaskets. He claims to have good luck with that method.
