Oil line finish?

Post by Dan Sands »

Hi everyone,
Can someone please tell me what the correct finish is for the oil line and fittings that goes from the oil pump to filters on a 1969 365 GT 2+2. I have a new hose and have prepped the old fittings; it looked as if the original was blued?
Thanks, Dan

Dan,

Take a look at the engine bay photos of the 365 2+2 on ebay from European Collectibles. This car appears to be unmolested so it may give you a good indicator. Appears that the end fitting was originally painted black but the paint has worn off quite a bit by now.

Thanks Rudy,
The old hose and others I have seen in photos look to have a black oxide or similar coating and the brass sleeves may have been chrome plated then black oxide or similar coating? The elbows and nuts were silver I’m not sure if the original finish is worn away. The new hose is steel braided so it can be cold blued. If anyone else has had experience with this replacement, input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dan

high pressure oil hose

I just replaced mine this Autumn. The original hose was a braided galvanized finish, and it appeared original. No finish other than it's natural patinated appearance. I had Bill at gt car parts install new hose of the same type onto my original fittings. God only knows how he did it.

Lots of things like that with skilled classic car technicians work by F. M. (second word is magic)
