330 GT Registry re-launch

Post by 330GT »

There have been a number of changes to the 330 GT Registry recently.

If you haven't visited lately, you should take a look.

1. New URL - www.330gt.com much easier to remember. You have no idea how much time I spent spelling out 'parrotbyte'.
2. Better navigation with drop-down menus, etc.
3. New format in the <a href="http://www.330gt.com/unknowns.htm">Unknowns</a> page with information about the pictures.
4. The Unknowns page has For Sale cars where the serial number is not known.
5. Recent updates are highlighted in the Unknowns page.
6. Contact information (address, phone, etc.) is on a separate page. This enabled:
  • Detail pages fit side-to-side without scrolling.
Detail pages are easier to print.
Two lines per entry instead of three, so shorter detail pages.
Recent updates to contact information only highlight that field instead of the whole entry.
A couple of notes:
The drop-down menus require Java. If you do not have Java enabled, you will have to click on the menu item and then select the appropriate link from the succeeding page.
The old form of getting directly to a car's page by serial number (www.parrotbyte.com/330GTRegistry?8755) no longer works.
Regards, Kerry

looks great Kerry-
Any interest in adding a page/section with the various 330GT videos on youtube?

Nice new layout Kerry, but the drop down menus are not working correctly on Safari. They come up far to the right of the indicated area on the navigation bar and I am unable to roll down over them. I do this for a living, so I realize it is sometimes difficult to get something to work on every browser - but I'd troubleshoot this for Safari before Firefox!
Otherwise, great job!

Keith,

Who uses Safari? Kerry's a former Microsoft employee!

P.S. Kerry, nice job. You're guilting me into doing a facelift on my site!

I had the same problem with IE to start, but fixed it. However, that fix didn't work for FireFox (and others evidently).

This simple solution is to narrow your browser window to about the width of the menu bar. Then the menus drop down in about the correct place. For whatever reason, FireFox's calculation of where the menu is located (used to place the drop down) is off by the distance between the left browser edge and the left edge of the menu bar.

Good idea, but I only know of yours and the Rihanna music video.

Nice job Kerry! You have a very clean and efficient layout. I particularly like the unknowns page, which was unknown to me before. Have you had many of the cars on this page identified so far?

Tom W.,

That is the whole purpose. Had you known of the 'unknown' page it would not have been unknown to you before.

Kerry puts a lot of effort in on that site.

I've followed that ideal for the last 9 years, but I think it's time to visually change a few things. Considering how much time I spend working and writing content for this site, however, who know when that will be!

Fixed the menu alignment problem in FireFox. Hopefully it is fixed in other browsers too, but I only can test in IE6, 7 and FireFox 2.

Hi Kerry

Still works with Opera - as did your first version.
For those who do not know about Opera - it predated Mozilla/Firefox by a number of years as an alternative to IE, so it is a bit more developed. And it is free also, and the one thing it has is the ability to zoom the whole screen to any size (pictures and all) when you get one of the microscopic text and pictures pages.
Please - no comments about my old eyes - and a white cane as a Ferrari accessory.

Cheers
