Sale results:

THe silver one went for 85,000 ($127,000) Euro and the black heavily restored one for 150,000 Euro ($225,000), is this a new record?

Don't really know what to say about the huge spread in prices between these two seemingly similar condition 250s, thoughts?

The interesting thing is there is very little difference in the cost of restoration between a running and driving car and a non runner needing a full restoration. Engine works costs the same, paint costs the same, and interior costs the same. Sometimes paying top dollar for a restored car is a better deal because you can't buy a GTE and have it restored for the total cost of $225K. Most people refuse to believe this, and continue trying to buy project cars hoping to save money, but in the end, spend tons of money restoring them anyway.

There is something to be said about restoring a car yourself however. At least you know what you're getting.

The black GTE has a tool kit that Shaughnessy hasn't got a hold of yet.
That may explain part of the price differential.

I can attest to that!

Some of us end up redoing what other 'reputable' shops have
already done before. It's a money pit, no matter what!

Yes, but as money pits go, it is one of the better ones.

Yes, absolutely. I tell my wife that at least I am not drinking or gambling
our finances away. That usually buys me some time until the
S#$* hits the fan....

As far as I can tell, the silver one did not meet reserve.

Looks like craftsman tools. They may have gotton more money without the toolkit. :)

On the subject of tool kits

Post by t walgamuth »

I am working on my PF coupe, #1421. My tool kit is missing all of the open end wrenches (though I have what must be a rare Lancia wrench from it) and the screwdrivers. What is the consensus, is it worth it to buy the high dollar open end wrenches avaiable that are supposedly the right type, or is there some other recommended method. Last night I was looking on the internet for generic wrenches and found a number of options, none of which looked convincing. Snap on, S & K, and numerous other brands.
