Kicking some ideas around for the Fall Party.

Post by tyang »

Hi All,

I guess if I want to make the Fall Party as much as a success as the Spring one, I should start thinking about it now.

I've been approached by a Tomyang.netter about doing a drive along with the Fall Party, and I'd like to give it a shot. It's NOT going to be a $3000 dollar weekend with celebrity speakers, loaner cars, and support vehicles. I hope to have a nice drive in the country for a one night stay where we can have dinner together and not drive home that night. Here's the idea. Meet at a house, perhaps mine, in Upstate NY for breakfast or lunch. Head up to Bennington Vermont via the back roads and check into a hotel. Have dinner and drinks and settle in for the evening. I'll contact Hemming's Motor News for a visit, but Yale mentions a nice drive at Mount Equinox. http://www.equinoxmountain.com/skylinedrive/

We could do this drive on Sunday morning, and head home by the afternoon.

I think the date would either be late September, or early October so the weather will be favorable. Personally, I cannot make Sept 20/21 because of Goodwood.

Who's interested?

I may make the Saturday event long enough so it will still be worthwhile for people to come out if they're not interested in coming out for the drive.

I am in! Let me know the date and I will make it work. As for the drive, I will be auditioning for the position of passenger all day Saturday. Have your people contact my people.

For those of you who have not yet made the journey to a Fall gathering, I suggest you clear your calendar. The folks are great and the wealth of knowledge of our cars make the air fare a great investment. I look forward to meeting you all.

Me too, me too! Suggestion, check the FCA/NER calendar so there is no conflict.

And what's with that throwaway line: "..cahn't make it, chaps - Goodwood, you know.."? So are you going, prepping customer cars or just being aristocratic? What's next, a briar pipe, tweed cap and string-back driving gloves?

Where does one buy a tweed cap anyway? I need one!

I have not made any more plans than buy tickets to Goodwood. I think I'm just scared about how much this trip is going to cost!

Tom,

If you are serious about the cap, try Murphy's of Ireland in Pelham
in your state. I have bought from them before. Good quality.

I can see Tom in Tweed now! As you guys probably know, you need to dress in period for Goodwood, that is something we want photos of Tom. Best, Yale

Since nobody has stepped up and named a date, I am going to throw my hat in for the middle of October. This will give Tom time to return from Goodwood and do all the Honey-do's necessary before having such an event at your house.

Also, I just found out I will be out of the country the last week of September, so it's gotta be in October or somebody will missing a passenger for the overnight drive....

The only problem with mid October is the weather starts to close in on us here in the Northeast. I need to look at the calender, and work on perhaps the first week.

Geez Tom. We've never let a little weather stop us in the past!

It's not us I'm worried about. There were definitely some guys that stayed home because of the weather. We have to teach people that a little rain is not going to hurt their cars, but snow is another issue!

Hi Tom, count me in. I've spent a lot of time in Bennington and Manchester Vermont, there's very few places on earth as nice as Vermont that time of year. Hotel reservations may be tough to acquire due to the leaf lookers. The Mt. Equniox Hotel is fantastic, however just north of Manachester is Dorset which is smaller and even more Vermonty.

Hi Tom,

The first fall gathering was Oct 21 or Oct 23, the weather was great and so was the leaf color.

Assuming my car gets done, I plan to attend.

We should probably get the UK bookies to make odds on this.... Yale
