When I got my 330, it had been worked on by a very reputable Ferrari mechanic and he put in BP6ES plugs. Are these wrong? If so, I perpetuated the problem by just putting in a new set of the same ones. The previous owner of my car put on one of those SF emblems, so does he owe me a gold chain? I'd sure like to have it in time for Monterey (not...since I don't even own a watch). s

Steve,

It's almost like speeding and getting away with it. Do it if you don't get caught. If you are not experiencing any problems with the projected tip plugs, then I would leave them in. My thought is that the earlier cars had issues with the longer tip plugs. I still like to follow the handbook per se,
but that is just my own preference.

He at least owes you a heat gun to pull those things off!

I want to go on record as stating I don't even own a gold chain (of any thickness) nor do I wear jewelry of any kind. BUT- I must admit, I like the SF fender sheilds, (and the contrasting Ferrari on the valve covers). I didn't have anything to do with them on my car, but I do kinf of like them.

But fear not, I won't let my Lusso go out so as to be excluded from any reindeer games.

I'm bringin gold chains fro me and Rudy to wear at Quail! Anybody who protests that much has a secret desire to join the gold chain crowd I'm sure.

Oh yeah. Gold chains, open shirts, (I'm glueing on black shag on my chest) cigars, a ring on each finger, obnoxious sunglasses with Zeiss lenses, girlfriend with surgeries gone bad, I am so there.

Well, at least I'll be with the "in" crowd.

Art, you promised the smokes. Light 'em if you got 'em.

Can't wait!

Rudy,

Don't forget the comb-over or the obvious toupe.

Rudy,

it sounds like Yale may have enough bling for the 3 of us. I can bring the pant-stuffing socks to complete the look .

BTW- you think I should remove the blue neon lights from my rocker panels?

Oh, yes! The socks and the toupe, how could I forget.
I wouldn't want to accidently stand out from the crowd.

Thanks for the reminder, guys.

Would it be forward to ask Michael Bayer to lend me one of his shirts?

Spark plugs differ by bank?

Post by Dr. Ian Levy »

Hello
According to the NGK website their correct plug for a 330GT 4.0L is DR8EA but I have no experience or knowledge of its projection.

Hi Ian:

Very Interesting - when I got my set a number of years ago the recommended plug was the BP6ES, and my Ferrari mechanic (former ALGAR 12 Cyl. specialist) installed them in my 330 after rebuild. The NGK web site shows a picture of the DR8EA and it has a somewhat projected tip, but maybe less than the BP6ES. It is also a resistor plug. Maybe NGK changed their recommendation in response to situations like Rudy has.

I also found a note on the following site.

http://www.jb330gt.com/FerrariCrossRef.htm
Vintage Ferrari Parts Cross References

"Champion N-3 can be used on later V-12 engines, provided a 1mm copper washer used for plug clearance".

I guess since mine is ok, I will not worry, but if I didn't know I wouild go with the current recommendation by NGK.

Cheers

Hi Ian:

Re: my previous post, I just noticed that the DR8EA plug is listed as a 12mm thread; That is clearly a mistake - the Ferrari takes a 14MM Thread

Hi Warren
Well found
I cross referenced the DR8EA on the UK site of NGK & this plug is isited for Kawasaki/Suzuki & Yamaha. so teh uS website is definitely completely wrong.
Just goes to show you can't always beleive what you read

Yes, DR8EA will power your motorcycle or snowmobile but not your Ferrari.

The "P" designation is on all NGK plugs with projected tip.
The "R" designation means plug with a resistor.

I use neither.
