CLEANING AIR HORNES

Post by DrewA »

One of the airhorns on my Boxer is off. The compressor is putting out plenty of air and is well oiled. One of the horns is great but the other is weak and puny. This is intermittant. There are no restrictions in the line.

I was reading that sometimes gunk or excess oil can accumulate on the diaphram and cause this condition. I was wondering if there was a way to open the plate behind the horn to expost the diaphram and clean them or would a blast of compressed air do the trick?

Thanks,

Kare, what the heck are peltors? My english dictionary has no
definition of that. Is is something that one can only wear in Finland?

Google (-> picture search) is a powerful tool for finding out the meaning of almost anything. It's always great fun to use company and product names to confuse people :o)

Kare,

I confuse easily....someday I'll wake up and get it.
That Finnish humor, it speaks volumes.

What kind of oil should be used to lubricate the air compressor component of the horns? Do the horns themselves require some sort of lubrication? Did you decide whether to try to clean them out with an shot of compressed air?

I dialed my air compress up to 40 pounds, put on my Peltors, and gave both horns sever long shots of compressed air. Working great now.

I use sewing machine oil, about the consistency of "3 in 1" in the horns' air compressor.
