Hi Tim,
I found that DuPont RS632 enamel from an auto paint store was an exact match for my 330 coils. The resistors were a little darker and I used Rust-oleum custom tint color of Brick Red for them.
I used Rustoleum #7765 Regal Red that was recommended to me. I was also told that Duplicolor DS-FM150 Ford Dark Red was also a good match. Kerry's info is very good as well.
Okay, I got her finished. I set the timing today on both distributors and she started up with ease. Something that I have never experienced before. I couldn't drive her because I won't get my two front Borranis back from the polisher until tomorrow. Thus the reason why I couldn't push her in 4th gear to line-up the timing marks Tom. I ended up grinding down a 1 7/16" socket to turn the crank bolt to line up the timing marks. I had to install 4 thread inserts for the air cleaner base. I noticed some water leakage from the waterpump (It's always something) and it looks like a fairly decent oil leak coming from the mechanical fuel pump...Another future challenge.
Here's what the MSD conversion cost in parts:
2-6A MSD Ignition Boxes...........................$383.00
2-Sets MSD Rubber Mounts(Optional).........$28.00
2-Bosch Blue Coils....................................$56.00
1-Rustolium Regal Red for Coils..................$7.00
2-Marelli Decals for Coils...........................$20.00
1-Set of Distributor Cap Numbers...............$12.00
2-Pertronix V8 Universal Plug Wire Sets...... $81.00
1-Set of Points (Filed the 3 other sets).........$39.00
Distributors sent out for setting the dwell,
points phasing, and curve testing................$270.00
TOTAL $896.00
Obviously there are some corners that could have been cut to save some money, but I only wanted to do this once and I wanted it to look first class. Thanks to all of you who assisted me with your advise and suggestions.
Have you had a chance to go through the fuel pumps yet?
I just purchased new gaskets for both mine that better withstand
the ethanol content of the modern fuels.

Hi Rudy-I have not gone thru either fuel pump, but it looks like I'll need to address the mechanical pump for leaking oil in short order. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Wow, I didn't realize that you were local to me. And of course you are welcome to come by anytime. After a couple of more enjoyable drives, I dive into the fuel pump oil leak. Are there gaskets available for this repair? Thanks

I fixed the fuel pump oil leak following
Kerry's account except, after talking
with Kerry, I did not remove any
fuel line from the pump. The lines
are sufficiently flexible that after
removing the nuts holding the
pump to the sump, you can just
move is (slightly) out of the way.
Hi ,Something about Electronic ingnition system available for ferrari V12.
Ignition-system in a classic cars can be a source of many problems.
after all those years our mechanical distributors (2) becomes severe worn and inaccurate.
although replacement of the standard points with an optical eye or some magnetic setups brings something but not MORE.
It forget something MUCH more important the wear (worn) in the advance mechanism, distributor shaft, and highly important the BEARINGS
Spark balancing is advanced technology in formula one and other exp. cars.
Where engines reached tremendously high speeds.
A microprocessor constantly checked the amount of enegy contributed by EACH cyl.
Assume/ imagine that the compression of one or more cyl. is different the rotation movement of the flywheel would be less smooth,
and SO is the movement of the cams!! By the way all of US have those problems! 100% equal compr. each twelve a fairy tale.
Somthing about coils
A mechnical distributor has an fixed angle, sometimes it results in overheated coils at low speeds , weaker sparks and misfiring at high speeds
Why? A coil needs some millisecounds or less to load or charged, but with this fixed angle these are overcharged many times when idling feel your coils
when standing still.
At high speed- which is possible in europe- there is has not time enough to load or charge.
i had 2 of those electr. ignation system in my 250gt`s in the past i took them out at returned to original with overhaul mechnical distributors.
these are perfect
i replaced every year: all wiring, points and plugs.
one more tip the are cheap caps on the market about 200 USD for the pair
the holes are not exactly parallel this means not ever 60 degrees in the right place
I noticed it on a test bank.
ciao
Cornelis
a ferrari V12 cannot be compared to your BIG US block mussle cars
you must live with lower power and torque BUT SO WHAT!
