Welding Mask

Post by tyang »

Hello All,

Since my last post, I've been thinking about buying an auto-darkening welding mask. I've been surfing a welding forum
http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/index.php?s=
and it looks like the best mask for me is a http://www.speedglas.com/
The 9000V seems nice for about $230
I know I can get cheaper ones, but I feel that my eyes are worth more protection.
Anybody have thoughts on this matter?

Welding Mask & other welding equip.

Hi Tom and All-

A couple of years ago when I had a problem with my early model 911, I had to make a decision about the repair. The lateral tube that houses the torsion bars completely rusted thru and colapsed from the torsional forces from going over a small dip in the road! I was faced with a three answer decision... Junk the car, Have shop do the fix for 3 grand, or get the new part and do the repair myself. Since I new that I have a lot of welding needs for restoring my Ferrari, I decided to purchase a Mig setup and do the repairs myself. The prep work was what took the most time in cutting and grinding out the damaged torsion tube, but after that was done the installation and alignment of the new tube was easy. I purchased and dual voltage welder which gives me flexibility of what power sources are available. I successfully made the repairs at about 75% of the cost of a shop doing the job (in both purchasing the part and the welding equipment). I also purchased an auto-darkening helmet with the largest viewing shield (no welders blink/flinch!!!). The whole set-up works great and is super easy to learn and use. Hobart makes excellent equipment, but I am equally satisfied with the quality of the equipment I bought. The manufacturer is HTP America, Inc. Their website is http://www.usaweld.com I had first class follow-up to all of my questions and after my purchases from HTP and was very pleased with the value I got for my money. They would be an asset to your supplier list. Good luck.
