Greetings all... I will be there with the Big Yellow Taxi. my mothers name for my 64 330GT. I like the idea of trashing Tom's room. I would vote for late afternoon or so as we have dinner plans that evening. Tim

Mecca

Post by abrent »

Hi,

The name of the indian place is "India's Clay Oven". It's on Del Monte, half a block east of the Doubletree, between Alvarado and Tyler.

It sounds like Tom is really intent on doing the Keith Moon thing to his room so I'll help that process along. Let us know the window of time that the tub is open and we'll work that into the dinner thing.

Later.

Mecca, split?

Post by abrent »

Hi,

Can anyone explain this?

"August 15, 2003, because at 8:00 a.m., the FCA-Pacific Region will be gathering at the San Carlos Beach Park in Monterey's historic Cannery Row"

DOES this mean that there will be a dilution of the Ferrari's at Italiano?

There's also a new loaction for Concorso, with a separate event at Quail Lodge on the same day! The FCA event looks to be free, but the Quail Lodge is $60 bucks!

Why is it always people want to break up a good thing?

I hear there's a pissing contest going on, in that the new Concorso Italiano has joined forces with Cavallino Classic, which is FOC based, so FCA is in a huff.

More Mecca

Post by abrent »

Ummm,, you guy's are kidding about the pissing match right?

O.K., so someone comes there from 15000 miles away, and now has to chose which event to visit.
I'm sorry, but FCA is clueless about this. Has anyone spoken directly to Bill Schwore (sp) about this.

Regards,

Andrew.

Yup, three events on the same day, competing rather than coexisting.

not this time

I am not attending this year :(
(insert lame ass excuse here)
even tho I am on the West Coast

looks like I chose a BAD time
to join the FCA, btw

hopefully by next year
(which I DO plan to attend)
all this petty 'political' crapola
(which has no place in the hobby IMHO)
will have blown over...
(or at least settled down a bit)

I DO think a change of venue / management
is a good thing, however
as it will bring 'fresh' blood
(so to speak)
as opposed to seeing the same cars
(and faces) year after year

it can get tiresome
with the same
white glove
paid servant
trailer queens
dominating the scene
judged by cronies
and sweeping the awards
(how many trophies does one need?)

I know this is the case
with the local 'concorso'
there is one
(admittedly stunning)
246 GTS 'Dino'
that wins
year after year
and after a while
the others just stopped coming
(why bother)
last year, only one other Ferrari showed
(which lost to the Dino, naturally)

so I do think
'shaking things up' a bit
is a good thing
(albeit painful at times)
but will contribute to a better event,
over all

One great thing about the Concorsos - there was no limit on the number of cars judged "platinum" - 95 points or better, which IMHO encourages people to keep improving the authenticity of their cars without having to always "lose" to the guy with more $. Will it be the same this year? I dunno.

I've been taking my car there from the time it would drive; drop by, it's the blue 330 spyder. It's never seem a trailer while in my hands!

Quail, Concorso, etc

Post by Keith Milne »

The event at Quail Lodge on Friday is called "The Quail - A Motorsports Gathering". This is a joint effort of Gordon McCall and Steve Earle (of the Monterey Historics). My understanding is that this is an invitation only (I may be wrong about this) event featuring LeMans racing cars. There will be an unjudged concourse, a hill climb and other activities similar to Goodwood. This information is based on a meeting I had with Gordon a few weeks ago. I will be showing my wife's 1957 AC Ace Bristol race car.
