Dan - I bought a hood pad for my series I (I assume yours is the same diamond quilted silver vinyl) from T Rutlands this past June.

We still are in the teardown/part collecting/refinishing phase. We are trying to have the car ready for Reading in mid- May.

Some progress:

Still trying to decide on stainless exhaust or a proper ANSA. Leaning toward the ANSA. Thoughts?

I received the proper Netherlands front license plate- "AA-13". Looks great. It is Prussian blue with white letters.

The 1967 Blaupunkt radio is coming.

Stephen spent this weekend removing the heater cores and refinishing the transmission tunnel.

We received a new shift boot. It is NOS and someone wrote on the original packaging "Do not sell"...Mine now!

Although the SN plate is off the car, so the engine bay bay can be redone, I will not have the plate restored- keeping as much originality as I can.

We are having the front seats redone. The sample has the correct perforation (the sample is of the perforation pattern and not the color). The other leather sample matches pretty well!

Dan,

Where did you find the boot ?!? I need one!

I'm going through the same dilema at the moment regading the exhaust. Francois strongly prefers Ansa but my NOS rear halves lasted 8 years - too short for me. Francois then suggested a compromise - the Ansa center sections, which really define the sound usually last 3 times as long as the ends, thus get Ansa centers and stainless ends. I heard a setup with old Ansa centers and timevalve ends and was quite pleased.

Francois' suggestion seems like a good compromise. If it doesn't work, you can always replace the center section with SS. I Just saw Michael Bayer last week, and he was disgusted that his few year old ANSAs are rusting despite drilling drain holes to let the moisture out. They tend to rust from the inside out.

I'm convinced ANSA packed wet sponges inside their mufflers and resonators!

Hi Art,

The shift boot came from T Rutlands.

Thanks for the exhaust suggestions- I will think about the options,

Here is an email from Richard who can explain things better than me:

Good morning Dan, I picked up the engine block last week from welder- weld
came out perfect! No issues. I then delivered to machine shop again to have
the Deck surface cleaned up / "Decked" for proper gasket surface! The new
liners came in this week, yesterday Fernando and myself began and finished
the process of installation into the engine block, liner fitment perfect.
Engine block will now go back to machine shop for final "Decking" of liners
(must have a certain protrusion above block) and Honing bore process to
accept correct tolerances of new Wossner pistons. I can then begin bottom
end engine assembly process moving to cylinder heads, timing cover, etc.

Please look at the Cylinder heads also, they are perfect. All new Magnesium
bronze guides, new valves seat's!!! Viton guide seals, and of course valves.
The have been cut and hand lapped into place by us.

If you have any questions, please call me.

Regards, Richard

Dan Great pictures, really agree with Art, the ANSA rears are POS, installed 9/27/03, I did all the right things, heated garage, weep holes, no 5 min starts and shutoffs and I noticed the tips began to fail in Oct of 08, never again. M

Thanks guys! I really want to experience what the car truly felt and sounded like in 1967, but I want the exhaust system to last a while- I am starting to think I should go with stainless,

Dan,

That stainless system just won't give you the '67 sound.
The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, some things were just
meant to be.

One of the pleasures of having this car is that it was around when the Beatles, Morrison, Hendrix, and Joplin ruled and life would seem more interesting. Rudy your point is well taken- I am torn which exhaust system to get. Maybe I'll get the ANSA for the experience and when it rots, then I'll go stainless.
