My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt
Re: My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt
The heads are off! Someone sometime jacked the car up via the gas tank. It is being sent out to be restored.
After thinking about this project for a while, i think I want the car to remain cosmetically largely original, but have no mechanical needs whatsoever. The gearbox, diff and suspension are fine at this time.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Richard says everything looks good. Just normal wear.

Re: My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt
Hi there,
I'm enjoying watching your progress. I have a 365GTC and I am making an engine stand at the moment. Can you tell me what hole centres you need to bolt the stand to the engine block, so I can get these drilled before taking the engine out.
Many thanks
Colin

The engine pieces have been cleaned. There was a small casting flaw on the block which will be repaired, but otherwise everything is going well

The car minus engine and tranny are at my friend, Stephen McKellars house. He has alot of experience building and restoring cars. He will do the engine bay and under carriage. Not sure yet we will do a full blown Concours treatment Vs making it correct and nice with in reason (ie not obssess over every minute detail)

A fresh coat of semi-gloss black paint after stripping the old paint will do wonders for your engine compartment, with only a few parts that need special detailing. I personally would work on getting the brake reservoir area detailed as you won't want to risk getting brake fluid on freshly painted surfaces in the future. I believe the rubber hoses are cloth wrapped hose in black.

Re: My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt
Dan - What is the "small casting flaw" in the block? Has it grown over the last 40 years or is this just preventative maintenance?
Re: My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt
Tom W- I think its preventative maintanance or not a big problem that will be fixed
Tom Y- thanks- I will pass this on to Stephen.

Re: My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt
With the engine and transmission out, the rest of the car was delivered to my friend Stephen's house where we are doing a "sympathetic" restoration of all issues needing addressed. Its depressing to see the car so "torn up", but soon it will be back on the road! I am an originality fan and do not want to lose the original feel of the car. I believe a sympathetic resto is one where the things that are worn beyond patina should be fixed but if it is only old but still presentable then we leave it. The car is beyond survivor status as it has been repainted and leather redyed so we really arent changing are level of intent. My pictures are too big to post but I will try to figure out how to make them smaller.
