Post by carello »

Hi Craig,My compressor plaque is stamped 309. Sorry about the photo quality. I took about a dozen and this was the best of all. The problem is that the plaque acts as mirror to the flash. I can can take another in daylight if you'd like. Thanks.john
John, Great info, thank you. It would be nice to see the actual stamping as the font size and actual stamp are important to me. It might actually be 309 or if misstamped maybe 809 so a picture is worth a thousand words. Also important at this time, since you are working with this compressor directly, what size is the compressor?

I have a later, silver compressor on the workbench today and here is my dimension
thanks
Craig

Does this help? Though partially covered by glue, the number is 212.

Craig - I attempted to PM you a high res copy of the photo but the site will not allow me to attach a jpg. Seems odd. PM me your email address if you need it.

I futzed with the photo to the best of my limited ability in order to see the bottom half of the stamp. Hope this helps.

Wow, fantastic photos Tom and John, that is the detail we need. I dont think i have ever seen the trumpet stampings before, but maybe it is an early 60's era trait that did not carry into later years. My opinion on the 117 stamping is that it is really a 111 stamping, but this is my opinion based on the upright series of evenly spaced digits and the fact that it does not make sense as a 117.

It would be great for others to post their compressor and trumpet stampings. Please do so!

Just for reference, i have a picture of a Fiamm serie "2000" spare compressor I have that was manufactured on or after January 1972. You will notice the stamping, but also the type and style Fiamm label used at this time, the information it displays, and the graphic arrangement. There will be a test on this later.

I agree, that is not a 117. My thought is that a later type of font was used
on that third digit. Maybe a replacement for a worn original. It is thicker
in size as well.

What do these stamps mean? Can you correlate them to a year or horn type?

Could be, notice that on the horn bases have the longer "tail" on the second "1".

Memo to self: Wipe things off before you photograph them and post them next to Tom's very clean versions!

Hi Tom, I can give you my best guess so far based on the couple dozen Fiamm compressors i have good knowledge of.
My theory prior to this TomYang thread was the first digit stamping indicated year of manuafacture and the following letter indicated a time within that year, maybe a month, maybe a week. So i happen upon you folks and thru the few earlier Fiamm i have seen, my theory still looks valid and even more so with the 3 digit stamping.
So, the 111, to me, indicates 1961 with 11 indicating (maybe, let's not rush this) November. And 207 would be 1962 with 07 marking July. The later 2000 MC/0 picture with a 2F stamp would be 1972 with F marking something. We actually need more data. And from a later era like 1964-1970.

I would now plead for more photos of stampings on Fiamm compressors and trumpet bases!

You would think with a simple system like this that the numbers would not be definitive enough, but what i find is the life of a certain style compressor is not very long during the 1958 to 1978 time period. So a 1976 compressor and a 1966 compressor might have same stamping, but totally different compressor. At some point, according to me, the 3 digit was revised to 1 digit 1 alpha.......i think 1965-66.

Not a big priority, but a fun detail.
hope this helps

Just for another data point, here is a serie 2000 set from the 70's (i think). Note the plate graphics, the information displayed, and stamping 6M.
note the TIPO M/1 12v.........not MC/1
note the E3 marks....what does this signify?
How about the short style plastic chrome trumpet nut covers, the "taupe" color plastic caps and painted bases, the shiny candy red trumpets
Please post more Fiamm stampings!
