PAINT

Post by mdempsey »

OK, had the car out for a spell the other day. I am considering getting the car painted to its original color - Celeste Gainesborough 2.443.625 (pale or sky blue) . Any thoughts? Any pics of this color? (is this the color shown on Page 71 of Original Ferrari V-12) Any pics of a 365 GT 2 + 2 in this color. Was this a metallic color?

The original interior was black (nero) which I have.

This should be fun. Let's get some opinions.

As most of you know we are RED right now!! I love it but maybe I want a change??

That is one of my favorite Ferrari colors but I have only seen one car in that color, and it had a red interior. This was the car, 5601 but all photos I have seen of the car show the color to be darker then it is in real life:

Ribot was a racehorse, many had a second life as a vintage Ferrari color:

Yale,

Post a few nice pictures of your car. It's the perfect color for the 4HL.

Hello
Aaron Masters has a GTC 4 in Gainsborough Celeste & it looks great in his pics, may be he will post a pic on this site.
Many of the paint colours of the late 60's & 70's were named after quite a number of the great European thourobred racehorses Sir Ivor,Le Sancy,Hyperion & Gainsborough are only a few.Given
Ferrari's penchant for the original or unusual the tie up between the Ferrari Prancing Horse & great race horses should be easy to understand??!!!!??

I have driven Aaron's car. He rebuilt the engine, gearbox etc etc. A real nice car to drive. The car pulls hard and the gear shifting is very positive and smooth. Now the colour is REAL nice and really suits the C4 but from memory it is a grey/blue, not a light blue. The darker colours suit the C4 with the black rubber bumpers. Michael Bayer painted his front bumper the same as the car (light aqua blue) and it looks stunning.
Here is a C4 that is supposed to be Gainsborough Celeste but it is not Aaron's car. It lives not far from Aaron in Napa. I looked and could not find a photo of Aarons car. I must not have taken one. ( I have enough C4 photos ! I love em.)

I tried to resize photo but resolution was always crap. The original photo I had is OK res (230kb in jpg) but every time I resized and posted the res went down big time. On my graphics softwsre the res was OK but when posting it deteriorated for some reason. Anyway if you copy the photo and resize in a graphics software it might be OK.

Bryan
It is the nicest colour (in my opinion) for a C4. It is Azuro California. Great looking car.

Hi Mark,

Just two thoughts. ONE: Tell the next guy that repaints it to take off the bumpers and the bumper tube covers before painting it. At least don't let him paint the rubber or the back side of the bumper (see the spy photo taken in Toronto). TWO: Replace the visor clips at the same time. -- I'm just teasing. I hope to see it blue at Elkhart Lake next Summer.

Thanks for that neat tip. I've wondered for years about the origin of the name of my paint. It's Grigio Ortello. Following your tip, I found that Ortello was another famous Italian racing horse and stud.
