So its 1967 again and I want the dealer to put in a good radio. What would be the most correct (eg Becker Mexico) and where would I buy one?
Thanks!

Here are the three places with the cleanest radios and largest selection who can answer your question:

http://www.oldautoradio.com
http://www.0700carradio.com/
They are not the cheapest, ebay would be cheaper, but you know these radios will work.

Hi Dan
I just went through this with my Mercedes 220SE. The "period correct" radio would be a Becker Mexico and they are priced accordingly on the market. Looking into all Becker models I found the Becker Europa 2 to be best suited for my needs. It features more modern technology and because it is stereo you can adapt a modern amplifier and an iPod to it. Lookswise it is the same as the Mexico except of course it says Europa II on it. There is a Europa 1 but it is mono.
Bought mine on ebay from a fellow who probably harvested it out of a '79 Mercedes Diesel.
Installing it is my project for the holidays.
Hope this helps
Mike
Re: Which radio for my 330 GT?
The missing letter from your reply is "A" as in A period correct radio..., not "The". There is no "The". You can buy Becker or Blauplunkt radios, that could be the year appropriate Mexico, Frankfurt, Europa etc. The radios kept the same names even though they changed year to year. Becker was the choice for Mercedes. There was a lot more variety of radios used in Ferrari's because this often was a dealer installed item. I bet every Mercedes came with a radio. At however many 10's of thousands of cars a year, Mercredes was a mass marketer compared to Ferrari making a few 1000 a year. I have heard the UK got other brands of radios as well as these two common German makes, (ever hear of Voxson?) And the choices got wider when 8 tracks and cassettes came into the picture at the end of the 70's.
As for iPods, starting in the early 60's, most of the better European radios had a din plug in the back. Some of those Euro radio dealers listed above make a cable converter that allows your stereo iPod go into a mono 5 pin DIN plug. My 330 is too loud for me to hear anything really except in traffic, which living in NYC I am often in, (when the car is running of course). The 365 GT might be a better bet for stereo and amplifiers and the like.
