Question on Strength of Materials

Post by John Vardanian »

I am looking to make bushings to replace the fibre ones that are in the steering uprights. I brought up this discussion a few posts ago. Kerry C has used bronze. But I'd like to use something softer that is sufficiently durable. Mc Master Carr has a verity of composite materials in bar stock, which I can cut to shape.

Are there folks out there that have a better knowledge of Strength of Materials than me? For Pete's sake I took a course in my senior year titled "Strength of Materals", but do I remember anything? NOT!

John - I've used "Delrin" bar stock for several bushing applications. It's by Dupont, and is available all over the internet in all kinds of sizes and colors. About the perfect hardness and strength for front-end bushings. Machines well with a mill/lathe.

John - per the above post, I also made all my bushings out of a Delrin bar. I have PLENTY left over and you are welcome to it. PM me.

Thanks guys. I was leaning toward Delrin, too. Thanks Keith. I'll contact you.
