speedo cable?

Speedo and odometer stopped working this weekend-needle had been wavering on occasion before hand. Cable or speedo itself?
Has anyone changed the cable themselves?

Easy to check. Pull the cable out from the speedometer head end, if the other(transmission) end is of four sides its all there, in one piece. You can spin that cable wo the sheath but reinserted in the speedometer socket and at hand speeds will get some movement on the dial if the mechanism is functioning. Replacing the cable is pretty easy and best of all, the universal cable kits they sell at any discount auto chain work. If only other things were so easy and cheep!.
