Does anyone know of a replacement number and place for the front rotor wheel bearings?

Hi Ed,

I have had a few run ins with my front wheel bearings and I believe, on this very forum, I posted the bearing numbers and even drawings. Best, Yale

I review the thread Yale was talking about. Interesting reading and its clear that the series one and series two are different.

I was wondering if anyone had the specific part number and brand for the Series II inner and outer bearings - without going thru the usual places, like Parts Source or Rutland's etc??

Hi Ed,

Do you still have the original bearings? There should be RIV numbers on them, and if you have a good bearing supplier, they can cross reference with a modern replacement.

The 1965 parts book calls for RIV 1D AA VP 20 for the outer ones and RIV 3AA NO n. 32 for the inner ones.

Sizes are 20x47x18 and 32x65x25 respectively.

From McCann's website:
95890101 ROLLER BEARING, 20X47X18 275/330/365 OUTER WHEEL (RIV # 1DAAVP/20) $50.00
95890305 DOUBLE BALL BEARING 32X65X25, (RIV # 3AANON/32)(SKF # 32/32MA/63) $398.75

If I remember, the inner ones were hard to find when Lowell Brown first bought his car and needed new ones. They were obtained in Italy and were $300 each several years ago.

Ed,

There is a good bearing place on 24th street just south of the airport. Kaman is the name of the place, I have had good luck matching up bearings and seals from them in the past. I am also familiar with bearing inspection critia if you are interested in reusing your existing bearings.

Cheers Jim

Guys, thanks alot for the response....i believe my driver front bearing has some noise comong out it and with the brake calipers off of it, i can hear a bit of rumbling as compared to the pass side. When i did drive the car yrs ago - i began to hear something like a bearing going bad on the driver front.

Now that im in the repair mode - ill pull the hub and check the bearings - these are the orig ones - so when i get it off, we will go from there,

Not having done a hub removal before, any thing i need to know.....

PS...thank you for the education!

JIM - ill be in touch for help - thank you

I had my front rotors trued a while ago by a good local machinist. I just pulled the hubs and rotors off in one piece. He mentioned that he needed to remove the bearings as he couldn't mount the hubs with the bearings installed. He had a special tool he had made a number of years ago to remove the lock rings. Evidently there are two rings, one screwed in clockwise and the other counter-clockwise. If I remember, you need a long cylinder with appropriately spaced pins on the end that fit into holes in the lock rings. Good luck!
