Ansa Exhaust

Post by 365 GT 2+2 »

I am doing some research on replacement exhaust for my 365 GT 2+2...I am weighing the pros and cons of stainless versus the OE Ansa system. But I have seen some Ansa tips with red/orangish paintinside the tips. Is that a standard application? I actually like the look but have only seen it a few times - perhaps the red color gets quickly covered by carbon? Thanks for any thoughts.

When Francois saw me painting the insides of my exhaust tips several years ago, he shook his head, and walked away.

Don't know about the ones they sell today - but mine were painted as you indicated when I got them from FAF about 1980 or so. But carbon does build up so you can't keep them that color if you drive.

Aw hell! Do it anyway - just in case someone wipes the soot away to see if it's there.

I am going with the ANSA. Looks like $3200.00 from ferrariparts. I was afraid of a change in pitch with the SS systems

What is the 'correct' color, if a correct color exists? Anyone?

Hi Tom,

Are you asking about the orange, or the black?

When I painted my exhaust tips, I used Chevy Orange, a high temp engine paint readily available at any auto parts store.

I copy my comment back to Art on ANSA in Dan's engine rebuild thread for posterity: I really agree with Art, the ANSA rears are POS, installed 9/27/03, I did all the right things, heated garage, weep holes, no 5 min starts and shutoffs and I noticed the tips began to fail in Oct of 08, never again. Mask the tips and paint it, and enjoy the fruits of your labor for about 10 minutes until the exhaust from a running car blackens your work!
