Bought an Italian car; not running

Post by Bryan P »

but not a Ferrari. 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale. Cosmetically ok; structurally great; I will restore drivetrain first.

So now I really, really need to sell the QM . . .

BrianPs cool factor just went way up, god knows who we will get to judge it and get his ego back in check! We may need to call our West Coast A Team in for some down to earthing of the boy. M

Tom B., I first marketed my car back in late September; my FML ad hit the press about 48 hours after Wall Street crashed. Had no serious offers in that time. As soon as I replace the clutch and, while I'm at it, the synchros, I will re-market. I've had it for 10 years and have done everything I wanted to do w/ it, fixing a whole of of things and maintaining the fine line between 90 to 95 points, but also driving it plenty. I wish I had known you were shopping!!

Here you go, Tom W.

Well - she had great ownership with you. And your new car is gorgeous. I'll call you. Congrats.

Hi Bryan,

I've never seen one of these in two tone, much less in elegant colors. It's a real beauty. Post more pictures that really tell the colors. Thanks.

Hey Bryan
Now that is just gorgeous. WOW. Please post photos of engine bay and interior. The body is wonderful. Well done. The front is like a BMW 507, one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

Congratulations Bryan,

The most beautiful Speciale I have ever seen. There is a big (220+ cars) auto show each year at the Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline MA and a Speciale has been on display every year I have gone. It is painted what appears to be Rosso Corsa, not nearly as pretty as yours.

Enjoy. Sam

Kelly is very envious! She wants a Giulietta SS, but selling the 365 is not an option :) I would really like a Giulietta SZ, but they are way out of the ballpark now, so we might have to keep a lookout and save some pennies for an SS.
How do you go fitting into it - they are quite restricted in their driving position from memory. I've sat in one previously. Going to the Giulietta register meeting in a couple of weeks time, so hopefully will see some more. Check out www.giulietta.com too, as well as the 750/101 newsgroup. What does it need to be made mobile again?

Cheers

Hi Andrew; I have been in Richard Garre's Giulietta SS and found it roomy w/ decent seat adjustment. Richard is probably 6'-2" and has no fit problems. I was prepared for Italian Ape driving position, but it didn't seem too bad. I've joined the Veloce register, but didn't know about the giulietta group (this is actually a Giulia, but a 101). The previous owner had stated an engine rebuild before he died; the bottom end has allegedly been redone, and the head is off. I trust nothing that may have been done and will essentially start over on everything. It's the perfect project for me; a car w/ great bones not requiring any structural re-work, good cosmetics, but needing everything mechanical.

Bryan
Now you are in a quandary. It is such an elegant car you will have to find an equally elegant driver to match such a beautiful car. Maybe you will have to get your wife to be the only driver. You certainly don't fit that description and I fear that most on this site are also not qualified. The colour scheme for it seems just so perfect. Congratulations and please post more photos.

Hi Bryan,

I'm envious. It sounds like a great project to sink your hands into, and with your Dad's Mondial finished, you've got another set of hands to help!

Congrats Bryan. That is an absolutely beautiful car and should be a great project to get back on the road. Whatever you do, you must resist all temptation to merge that gorgeous body with this chassis :D : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 3D1&_rdc=1
