First leg complete!

Sam and I met Tom Kizer in Elyria OH on schedule at 5pm. Unfortunately, Tom K. had some mechanical issues with his 365, and left her at home for this trip, but he can explain on his post.

General Marsh met us, and offered to park Sam's 365GTC/4 at his garage 10 minutes away, so we took him up on his offer. Had dinner with General's friends, and local Ferrari owner Jim Gerkin and his son James. Great fun.

I just got an e-mail: Mark Dempsey's en route from Maryland to meet us later tonight in his 365GT 2+2.

Next stop, Hil's house...

If anyone is leaving the FCA early enough to make Meadowbrook, there may be some folks meeting near the Dino Competizione around 12:30 on Sunday.

Hi Jim,

I'm leaving Elkhart Lake early Sunday and trying to get to Meadowbrook. I'll have to check my GPS to see just how early I'll have to leave here to get to Meadowbrook by 12:30. Don't wait for me though.

I'm having lots of fun, probably because I left me Queen at home - meeting everybody and learning a lot. Today some of us went to Motion Products for a very impressive tour, then to Oshkosh for the Air Show, then back to Road America for dinner reception.

Tom Yang will undoubtedly post details of the week's activities when he gets the time.

I hope to see you Sunday.

Well I finally made it home Tuesday around 19:30 EST after my sidetrip to Northwestern PA for work. 2068 miles and a ton of fun and stories. It was great seeing everyone again and meeting some new friends. Can't wait for the next event. MARK

Dear Yangsters,

To me there were several interesting occurrences at the FCA National Meet this year. After the judging at the Concours on Thursday, Tom Schultz (author of the two definitive books on the history of Road America) came up to me and asked if I would like to meet Augie Pabst. As some of the older folks will recall, Augie was hugely successful with the Scarab on the road racing tracks around the country winning both USAC and SCCA National Championships He also had very good results with the Ferrari 500 MDTR which had one of the four 625 motors installed. The combination made a very light and nimble car with plenty of horsepower. For Telaio chasers it was 0612 MDTR.

Of course I said yes to Tom’s question and I was also then introduced to Dick Wuestoff who co-drove the Ferrari with Augie in the Road America 500 in September 1959, in which they garnered a ninth place finish. My car was also in that race exactly fifty years ago and had the differential seize at about the 200 mile point of the race. That failure led to the opportunity for me to buy the damaged car the following spring. This meeting was fairly unique and special to me as there are fewer and fewer of the drivers from that era still with us today. The following is a photo of Dick on the left and Augie on the right.

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Tom Y, Mark, Todd, and Sam,

I really enjoyed FCA2009 this year, especially the privilege of meeting and traveling with you guys, in spite of my not driving a Ferrari. I know that General Marsh and his friends, Hilary and Roland are not on this site, but a thanks to them too. I was awed and intimidated by so much Ferrari knowledge, including from those I was introduced to at the Osthoff and the Seibkens. I really can't adequately express my appreciation to all of you for including me in your circle of friends.

Thanks to you all.

Excuse me.

I meant General Marsh and his friends, and Hilary and Roland. When I read it, it sounds like I meant that Hilary and Roland where General Marsh's friends.

Tom Y, is it possible to edit posts here if we find errors before someone else reads them?

Dear Yangsters,

Extracted some footage from the video camera that Bill Bowdish used at Road America and Bryan figured out how to get it on youtube. Try going to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnbAYXd1ic4

The track was quite wet and it made for a very fun drive.

Best regards,

Robert

Dear Yangsters,

At the risk of boring some of you with more photos from Road America last weekend, here are a few more.
