330 GT trunk gasket

Post by DBR330GT »

Hi all,

Making slow but steady progress on the 330. When i bought the car it didnt have a trunk gasket and about 3 years ago we had one put on but it caused the trunk to sit too high plus it was very hard to close and i fear denting the trunk trying to close it. We cant adjust the latch to make it more flush as this will only make it harder to close! In other words it is too thick. We bought another supposed CORRECT gasket and have the same problem. We got it from Re-originals. Does anyone have suggestions where we can get a proper one or how to make the supposed correct one work?

Thanks,

Hi Dan,

What shape is the one you got from Matt? The GTEs have an "H" shape trunk gasket, while I think the 330s have a gasket with a lip.

The late 330 GTs just uses a squarish gasket glued on the underside of the lid. The replacements I've seen are too thick and either use time to let if fit right or cut it down some.

I installed one like in Kerry's photo.
The trunk lid closed but had a gap that a good eye saw
I voted for time to make it fit rather than trying to slice some thickness out.
It has been a few years now. I voted wrong.

Thanks guys. Lowell, its been about 3 years with the new (and too thick) gasket and the trunk still sits too high. They dont squish or settle with time. I am seeing if we can trim a gasket to fit better.

Dan,

Please post how to trim the gasket if it works out.

Trunk Gasket:

I inspected my trunk gasket, and I wonder if the problem is that the current gaskets are too firm. My old (I think original) gasket seems very soft, even after many years.

CU in Maryland - maybe make an on-site comaarison

Cheers
