Replacing exhaust system on 365 GT 2+2

Post by srslusso »

I have to replace the right rear postion of the ANSA exhaust system on my car due to the area just short of the chrome tail pipe ends where the 2 reinforcing pieces that hang down rusting through. My question is has anyone had any experience with buying a new unit from ANSA part # FE 0927 I have been cautioned that it may not fit well as recieved and that these do not have a long life even in sunny Southern California. 1. Does anyone have any comments 2. Does anyone have a source to buy this wholsale, 3.Would you have a stainless one made which would not match perfectly ? 4. any ideas how to fix the rusty holed pipe until I can get the new one installed. PS this car is an excellant driver ,but not a Concours Queen.

There's a guy who advertises in either the FCA bulletin or FML who says he can rebuild ANSA exhausts. I presume that means that he replaces or fixes any problems with rust as that is the main cause of failure.

If it's a daily driver why not go stainless? I bought a system from Sebro on ebay it was listed at $3600 OBO so I offered $1800 the system is very nice but it cost $900 to make it fit. Dan at Stebro agreed to pay half but never followed through it has been a year now and I have given up. At $2700 installed it was still a good deal.

I Bought a set of New ANSA "old stock " exhaust pipes from Dennis Mc Cann at All Ferrari Parts.com they seem to be a slightly newer version then my Originals. 2 minor Problems these have a silver band around them rather then red where the chrome tips join the pipe that says ansasport. and they have a really big ugly bracket going toward the center of the car that is part of the reinforcement where the pair of pipes are joined that serves as a mounting point for my hangers and is also the reinforcement so they do not scrape on the ground. IS this actually stock and has everyone just cut off this bracket close to the pipes and then drilled a new hole for the hangers or ?
A question specificly for Zac D. Scott Oshrey told me that you swear that the inside of the tailpipes should be painted red. I cannot find any basis for this in early photos or the factory brochure for the car.

I went to Home Depot and bought some red electrical tape. It's too wide, so I cut it to the proper width. A little too bright, but not noticable unless you have some old tape side-by-side. No problems with the heat or coming off (which the original tape did). Been on my system for 3 years now.
