Windshield Washer Pump

Post by Michael Greenspan »

The floor pump mechanism in the car is not working. You can pump it forever and no water will squirt out of the sprayers. I thought that there might be a possibility of rebuilding it. Tom Y said that it was only held in by two nuts so I removed it a little while ago. It certainly doesn't appear to be a rebuild candidate. The black accordian gasket that encloses the plunger seems to be glued on (just barely at this point) and there is no removable back plate. The plunger doesn't appear to be removable either.

Has anyone rebuilt this? Or is this just a replacement item? If so, where can it or a rebuild kit be found?

Thanks - Michael

Thanks Kerry. We missed you last weekend.

I also searched this site and found a very old post (I think it was yours) pointing to Dennis McCann and giving part number 4105576 which his site quotes at $40. Too late to call tonight. The picture that John Vardanian posted on FChat is exactly like the one I have.

I could not rebuild mine on the GTE. I found another one
off another GTE that worked. Now it sprays really well,
duly impressed by how well it covers the windshield area.

Anyone have a picture of finger pump that was installed under dash in S.1 GTE? I recently found in Italy one made by Fispa with quite a big cylinder and a pull knob, that is 10 times better than the rubber buttons seen on Fiat 500. I have no idea what was original though...

Maybe the silence means that all early finger pumps have already been replaced. FWIW, in cars I know I've only seen electric replacemens and hacked-on Fiat 500 rubber pumps, which may be correct for Berlinettas but hardly for more sophisticated street cars. Best wishes, Kare

Here's a picture of a new and the old one for my PF coupe.

Neither fits the hole in the dash very well as it is too large for them, so it must have been replaced at some time. I'll probably make a large washer to have everything fit better when I install it.

I bought the new one from McCann a few years ago. The part numbers on the bag are 0410807 and 100434.
