My plan so far is:

Wednesday: Drive North and stay in Carmel

Thursday: Park myself in a lawn chair somewhere along the tour route and get a preview of the cars. Check them out again on Pacific at noon and Tom Y's dinner at 6:00.

Friday: The Quail

Saturday: Laguna Seca

Sunday: Pebble and fly home.

Not too imaginative, but it is always a good time. What are your plans? Anybody going to the Auctions or something else interesting? How about Khaki's on Saturday afternoon? Still got Thursday Afternoon and Friday night open.

A good place to watch is about 1/2 mile south of the highway 1 and Rio Road intersection in Carmel. There's a nice wide place on the east side of 1 that is shady. It's where the sign crew that I've been on stops to wait for the cars to go down and return from Pt Sur Naval Station. The returning cars are coming down a hill towards you with plenty of warning to get your camera ready. it's about where the Green 1 is at the bottom of the map.Image
If you are early enough, you can see the cars twice. This map is from a couple of years ago, but the course hasn't changed since then. The date is 8/13 this year. The official map is at:
http://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/img/ ... _Final.pdf
BTW, the road through Monterra (checkpoint 1) is private so spectators can't go that way.

If the sign crew is there (usually in a SUV w/PB Concours on the sides), you should be able to get a poster from them. I won't be there this year, but in the past, we've had a couple of hundred to give out.

I will be driving my Aunt home to her place in Carmel, where I will occupy her Guest room, as always. However, thanks to your suggestion, I plan to enter her Prius in the Bonham's auction to pay for all the events I am attending...

Thanks for the suggestion of places to observe the tour. I will check them out on Wednesday.

I think the car thing on next weekend in Monterey is overrated. We will be in the pub - the crown and anchor in downtown.

Looking forward to meeting you guys.

I've got a prix fixe menu together, and I'll be posting more information shortly.

So far, we'll have drinks from 6-7pm and dinner starts at 7pm.

Tom W.

What is up with your GTE?

Will we see that thing on the road
before we land a man on Mars?

It was nice to see everyone at the dinner, and kudos to Tom for putting on the event. The breakout sessions at the bar afterwards was well attended, too.
I am glad I did not bring the car. Waiting for the lights to change on hwy1 was a little tedious.
