Monterey 2009

Post by tyang »

Hello All,

I'm making plans for Monterey 2009, and due to a change of venue I've decided to do something better and meet for dinner. I found a new place to meet for Thursday Night the 13th of August, 2009. There's a restaurant in Carmel Valley, just off of Hwy 1 called Swiss Bistro. It has plenty of parking and can accommodate us for dinner. http://swissbistro.com/ (I'm told from someone who's been there it's not as tacky as the home page suggests!) I've reserved the smaller of the two rooms that can seat 32 people, and with more than 15 people for dinner, there will be no room fee. Since the tomyang.net gatherings run about 30 people, I don't think we'll have a problem for dinner, but I'd like to get some kind of head count.

Thanks.

If I get to Monterey I will attend. When I know definitely I will let you know. That should be in a week or so.

Tell your wife it'll be great to see her without her chasing after the kids!

Goodwood Festival of Speed is on this weekend in the UK - just in time for the weather to change from 30 deg C in and around London to 18 deg C & showers...

Despite that, we are starting to plan our Monterey trip for next month. Aside from the 'must dos' of:

Thursday night - Tomyang.net dinner
Friday - Quail Lodge
Saturday - Laguna Seca
Sunday - Pebble Beach Concours

there are a raft of other shows/auctions/rallies/events happening. What is the consensus on the
best things to see - as we are assuming that we can't see everything!

Cheers

I get an email about every other day stating that the Concorso Italiano has added something new. However, I have seen no indication of a shift towards vintage cars. The Quail is expensive, but I am sticking with it. I still think the cars are worth it.

For all of you stragglers, it appears that there are plenty of hotel rooms available this year. Prices appear to be down 20% or so, which is to say that it is still outrageously expensive.

Hello again
We are sorting out our tickets for the various events and I wanted to check with you experts about Laguna Seca tickets. Can we buy a Saturday only ticket at the gate or do we need to investigate further about them. Any idea of costs of the single day tickets? We are trying to plot out how many things we can attend!

Cheers
