Passenger window motor wiring

Post by h00kem »

Am in process of reinstalling the original electric window motor on the passenger side of my 1966 interim 330gt 2+2. There are 4 bullet connections on the back of the motor, 2 on the left (top/bottom facing forward) and 2 on the right (top/bottom) and I have 4 wires to connect, 2 green and 2 black. I think the top two connections were originally green on the left and black on the right. Anyone know if this Is correct? If so, what is the color sequence of the two below these, green on left and black on right or are they reversed? If I had power to the car I would just wire up and test but my dash is out at the moment. Thanks for any help folks can give me.

Got it from another owner. Two black wire (upper & lower) on left and both greens on right.

Despite having spent way too many hours working on my '66 GTC PWs, I'm no expert, but...in the four wire setup, one motor wire must always be getting juice (mine was green, but don't count on that), and one wire is ground. Using a 12V source (I used my battery charger) experiment around until you figure which two wires spin the motor with the fourth wire as ground. One of those wires will always be the common positive, one will always be the ground and the other two, when connected (along with the common) to positive will either raise or lower the window. Then, using a 12V test light determine which terminals belong to which wires (in other words, when the switch is operated, which terminals are hot). I think you'll need to ground the switch negative to the chassis in order to do this. Clear as mud, eh? steve meltzer "Never enough time to do it right, always enough time to do it over"

Thanks Steve. Experimentation and "do over" seems to be the order of the day on these cars. But then again that seems to be part of the "charm" we are all drawn to in owning them!
