Cavallino 2010

Post by tyang »

Hi All,

I heard Cavallino is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the 250GTE in January in Palm Beach Florida. So far, I know of 3 GTEs that plan on being there, and I'm thinking of bringing my 330 America to join in the celebration. (Do you feel a road trip coming on?)

Anybody else want to join us?

Tom,

I think it would be great to see Cavallino show honour and respect to the GTE. These old cars often do not get the respect that they deserve. It is likely quite safe to say that the money earned from 250 GTE sales put Ferrari on much firmer ground.

My wife did a presentation in an Italian class at the University of Michigan Through the 1960s, Ferrari built more 2+2's than road-going two seaters. They really did support the company and the racing program.

Hi Todd,

How was Milwaukee? Did you resolve the windshield issue?

Hi Clem,

Some pretty good sources confirmed the news about Cavallino, so I'm inclined to believe it. I just wish Len Miller, the founder of the GTE Registry lived long enough to see the day. I hope we all get a chance to raise a glass to Len in Florida when we have another gathering of the GTEs.

Hey Tom,

Windshield's back in... not to my liking though, gasket still flopping under the roof line. I will pull out the windshield again this fall/winter and try some shims or hope an original glass pops up.

I also plan on pulling the heads this winter to adjust the rocker arms as they are not hitting square on the valves. Not sure if I told you, but I found coolant in the oil pan. Early this year, I replaced my radiator cap with one that actually holds pressure. Well, I think this started the problem. Thinking I should check the heads, I pulled the valve covers and re-torqued the head bolts. Some of the bolts started to tighten around 40lbs!!! All this was done the week before the Masterpiece. Not wanting to take any chances with a leaky head gasket, I trailered the Ferrari to Milwaukee. This week I was able to check if re-torquing solved the problem, and so far it seems as thought it has. No coolant in the oil. Sooo, I'll be busy this winter working on the car which means no Cavallino for the Ferrari!!

We had a great time at Milwaukee. Hilary won "best finish" with the series I.

Heinrich's 375 continued to kick butt!!!

RIP Len.

I'm kicking around how to drive drive my car out of my area before the snow flys and driving her down the rest of way in January. One option is to park my car in Savannah from mid November to mid January at my sister's house. Anyone heading south on I95 can meet me there, and caravan down from there.

Mark, you should bring the trailer hitch in case we need it!

O.K., I got it from the source!
Tom hello,
Yes, we are featuring the 250 GTE 2+2.
- We will have a special class for them on the Concorso field (for both judged and displayed cars).
- There will be Class Awards for those who want to be judged, and a 250 GTE Major Trophy.
- The 250 GTE will be the subject of one of the lectures on Thursday, with a car on display.
- We may have a separate class for 330 Americas, if enough come.
Hope you can make it.
Regards, John
