Mark's 365 at Road America
Mark's 365 at Road America
Mark Dempsey was kind enough to run me around Road America at the Nationals in August so I took a little video, not the best quality but it is good fun to watch.

I like Mark's track driving position: One hand on the wheel with the arm on the window sill!
The BB LM sounded good. Fun times.

Very cool. Thanks for posting Zac. Mark
later in the run the 'pace car' went away and we opened it up a good bit. I don't drive with two hands until I hit 100 mph...........or is it 100 kmph? Can't remember. Mark

Nice clip Zac.. Hey what the hell was that white car ahead of the 512?
Sorry I missed the chance to take my rental car out on the track... Hilary asked why I wasn't out there. I was eating lunch with Roland while everone was going around the track!!

Neat clip, Zac.
I perceived that the closer Mark got to that 512, the more stress I could hear in your voice. And it seemed that the more Mark talked, the shorter your answers got. Maybe Mark's "wrist at 12:00 o'clock", as opposed to the "hands at 10:00 o'clock and 2:00 o'clock" steering wheel grip caused you to pucker up just a little? He took me on a similar ride around Mosport and since then he calls me "lightweight". It's got nothing to do with my girth and everything to do with my fear of death.
By the way, I've also ridden with Mark through the open countryside without anything blocking us. It's an exhilirating experience. And, remembering that ride, I find that Mark's Queen winding out between the gears sounds better than the 512, just not quite as loud.

No pucker moments for me on that video but both Mark and I had a few on the first lap before getting to know the 4+ mile track.

Hey Mark,
Not only a Trophy but a media star too! The folks in the fire house will make you cook dinner for a month! Congratulations.
Unfortunately my co-pilots forgot cameras but it was a blast.

That did look like fun. Road America seems to be a beautiful course. Mark and Zac, next time lets use the video camera when you really get to open it up!

Really nice editing job. Did anyone notice that Zac never did put on his seat belt after tossing it in the back seat floor in the pits? Look at the high speed pass at the 1 minute 15 seconds point. Mark's seat belts are black and Zac has a red shirt. That must be why they ask everyone to sign a waver.
Way to go, Zac.

Zac cheats death on a regular basis
Even though it is the largest Ferrari ever made, the Queen Mother's proportions, esp the rear end, are downright delicate compared to the newer cars on the track w/ Mark - their rears are like billboards. I know it's because of design borne out of wind tunnel testing, but still. . . ..

To ensure credit is given where credit is due, the footage of Mark and Zac at Road America was extracted from a lot of footage shot by Bill Bowdish.

Re: Mark's 365 at Road America
Thanks for the concearn for my safety but I was wearing my seatbelt. Because of how tall I am the shoulder strap makes it uncomfortable so I only use the lap belt. I knew I was safe with Mark since he needed the car to get him back to D.C. I have done many laps with professional drivers where I had a battery box for a seat and a roll bar to hold onto so having an actual seat was a luxury.

Re: Mark's 365 at Road America
My sincerest apologies, Zac. I saw you tossing the belts in the back seat floor at the 40 second point in the video, but missed you fishing them out to put them on at the 44 second point in the video. There was some elapsed time that was edited out between the two. Although no one could ever correctly call you innocent, you are at least not guilty and I falsely accused you.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at Cavallino.
