Mystery Part
Mystery Part
Hi Tom,
Those pieces go under the cowl section where the door meets. It's there to help drain water away. You should see them just as you open the door under the section where the front fender meets up with the cowl section, held on by 3 or 4 screws.

Damn!! Todd beat me to it, I was so proud when I figurged out what they were on 2169. Both my painter and I looked at them for hours wondering where they went then when I saw a car with them and put the in location the screw holes lined right up. Now I'm still no exactly sure what purpose the serve seeing as the hole lines right up with the hole in the cowl drain.

Re: Mystery Part
Geeze, never noticed that piece before. Since it was not removed before the last painting, it looked like part of the body work. However, four small screws and it comes right off. Looks like it is just there to send rain water forward and away from the door. There is a weep hole in the body that lines up with the rearward hole in this piece, but can see no purpose for the forward hole.
Re: Mystery Part
Man you guys are good! Now all I have to do is find the ones for my car somewhere in my garage!!!
Thanks everyone!

Those holes were probably made to attach the piece of sheet into the tool that was used to shape it quickly.Tom Wilson wrote:There is a weep hole in the body that lines up with the rearward hole in this piece, but can see no purpose for the forward hole.

Do you agree that the crude finish suggest these were a late addition to solve a problem, not part of the original design? Do earlier cars - like PF Coupe - have these?tyang wrote:The great news is I found the ones that go to my 330 America! Thank goodness I don't throw anything out.

Re: Mystery Part
The quality of build is pretty crude, but I don't think they were expected to be noticed; look at how few of us knew they existed! I think they were there to push rain water forward so it did not get on the wiring or go into the door. As you can see from my photos, they do not visually cover anything and nothing is hung from them. The door switch and latch are lower on the body.
I would be interested in hearing from a Series I owner to see if they were there from the beginning or added later to solve a problem.

Hi Guys,
I can tell you without these panels installed, rain water fills the square tray on the top of the door when it is closed. I'll take a picture of it when I get a chance.

Several early GTE pictures show them, even on prototypes. I'm not sure about PF Coupe, the construction appears little different. Tom? Kerry? Best wishes, KareTom Wilson wrote:I would be interested in hearing from a Series I owner to see if they were there from the beginning or added later to solve a problem.

the is an watercatchpool on the body of PF coupe, leads to nothing
No mystery parts here for sure only simple parts to hide the unpleasant view of the hinges (red panels ones see pic)
the gungray parts are unknow for me, maybe GTE with two interior switches.
Pf only one switch at driverside.
PF and GTE had both rubber tube to close door to front wingspace to avoid water and -- mainly --noise reduction.

Re: Mystery Part
Cornelius: The gray parts in your photos do look like they are from a GTE. The upper hole is for the switch and the lower cutout is for the hinge. Might be an early series as my series three has an semi-oval cutout for the switch and a more rounded hinge opening.
