Fuel tank pick up

Post by Michael Bayer »

Guys Two 330 questions: I pulled my fuel tank pick up tube (it is not cracked whew) but there is no screen on the end just a tube wirh an open end and two holes near that end. Is there supposed to be something on its end? Also to the electric fuel pump: it is racing as though there is no fuel but the filter is clear and the tank is full I suspect something in the pump is amiss. Does anyone have a set of diagrams or images on how disassemble one? Is there a diaphram within that might have failed?

Hi Michael,

There is a plastic screen the fits on the bottom of the pickup, but I have not been able to find a replacement. It has to be thin enough to fit in the hole of the gas tank fitting.

The fast clicking of your fuel pump could be due to a torn diaphragm. The bottom of the fuel pump comes off from the six or so screws, but be careful with the electrical mechanisms under the plastic cap on the other side when trying to remove the plunger rod. It's a relatively easy mechanism, and will make sense when you take the cap off. Just be careful not to break any of the wires under the plastic cap!

I have some pictures of the FISPA electric pump, see http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/P ... icPump.htm

The 330 does have a plastic screen on the bottom of the pickup, but the PF coupe has a soldered on metal screen. This could be adapted to make one for the 330 that would serve the same purpose.

BTW, the new diaphram for the FISPA came from McCann.

Under the big bolt on the electric Fispa are two little valves see pic (copyright Kerry)
they must be working other wise the fuel from the mech. pump is ONLY circulating.
No replacement I find till now.
Mc Cann only sells the new membrane .

Hi Guys,

Isn't there also a check valve under the large nut pictured?

Well I finally got to pulling the pump and found its a Bendix not FISPA, same in appearance as the pair on the C4, its lower screen is clear, and the check ball was not blocked. I will buy a modern replacement so I can get back on the road while I look for a rebuild kit, Facet makes Bendix now but not parts for the old pumps, M
